I've made these many times over the years and they're always a big hit. It's become my favorite cookie recipe. To make them faster and so much simpler to execute I make them as 4 logs which I then cut into 1inch thick cookies once cooled. They look like Fig Newtons. Just lay down a rectangle of approx 12"x4" of dough and put a line of the filling all along the middle. Fold over and press down slightly. Use the eggwash to glue the folds and gloss the top.

I have made this cookie for several years now, and want to thank Giada for it...It is wonderful...I also make this cookie with apricots instead of figs and add some pignoli nuts, as well.
    Terrific!

I've been making these cookies for at the last three Christmases. My family love them. I substituted dates for the figs. Also had to double the dough recipe to finish off the filling. Dough is very soft and found it helped to pop them in the freezer for a few minutes once they were on the cookie sheet but before I folded them over. Have added it to my family cookbook of favorite recipies. Thank you Giada!

I've made 4 batches of these so far - 2 with figs/walnuts and 2 with apricot/pecans. People LOVE these. They're definitely an adult cookie, so make something else for the kids. And they take tons of time to do right, but they're worth it. You can line your baking pans with tin foil and spray it with non-stick cooking spray and the cookies come out perfectly. They also last beautifully, because the filling hydrates the dough to keep it from drying out. It's the perfect cookie to send to others, if you're into that kind of thing.

Don't make this recipe if you are short on time! Halve the filling recipe and maybe you will only have enough left over for another batch of dough. The dough is tender but sticky, so don't be afraid of flouring your work surface...waxed paper and an offset spatula saved my life! Pretty results, and should keep fairly well.

Great Cookie ! I've been making this recipe every Christmas for the past few years. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas I get requests for me to make and bring to all functions. Delicious and easy to make.

This is a cookie for mature tastes. I was hoping my 4 year old would eat them but the taste and texture are not kid-friendly. The outside was crisp, like a biscuit. The whole cookie was full of too much citrus. Maybe I was looking for a different cookie. The cookies taste better the next day.
