I tried this recipe recently and loved it! It was very rich though. I didn't mind that a bit, but some of my family members felt it was a little too rich for their liking. Next time I might leave the chocolate chips out of the brownies and try a different kind of icecream...maybe mint. Oh, and the top layer was really hard to cut through. Next time I might add more cream to the chocolate chips to soften it up a little?

Up front...I'm not a huge chocolate lover or ice cream lover, but this just seemed so yum. It is good but way too chocolatey for me...but my kids absolutely love it! The only trouble I had was my brownie layer would not cook in the time given. Not sure why.

I don't understand why people have problems with this recipe. It is, quite possibly, the easiest desert, just a little time consuming. I'm not much of a chocolate lover, however, this was a yummy yummy dessert! I live very close to Jackson Hole Wyoming and now I'm going to have to go and see if my/your dessert compares! Thanks Giada for another excellent recipe!!!

I think it was perfect without the layer of fudge, in fact I too the advise of others and only did one skor bar and used vanilla ice cream and the fudge was still a bit much, at least for me. My 16 year old seem to disagree!

This is the 4th recipe that I have tried making after watching Giada make and it was another failure. I have this recipe and how she made it saved on Demand on my T.V. and watched it several times before making it. For one, that icecream was expensive. Way too expensive for me. So I used Vanilla Bean Icecream. Also, the icecream kept sticking to the brownie while I was laying it out after the brownie had cooled. Lastly, I can NOT cut the dessert to save my life. The chocolate keeps sticking to the knife and when I cut down the chocolate lifts up with the knife. And the brownie is so frozen I cant cut that either. What a complete mess. Whatever dish Giada is eating in the video of her making this recipe ISNT the same thing. Trust me. It looks like she is eating something with a really soft layer of chocolate on top and its NOT this recipe. Also, she can cut it with a fork and you CANT in reality. Its tough, tough, tough. And wayyyyyy to rich. Yuck!

This dessert is a keeper! I got rave reviews from guests that declined dessert until they saw my husband eating it. I used vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate for the topping and I skipped the strawberry sauce. This is a winner and will be making it again for father's day dinner.

I made the recipe exactly as stated using Ghiradelli brownie mix. It was absolutely wonderful. You can make it without the strawberry sauce but everyone thought the sauce really added something extra. Make sure you have sufficient time for freezing the layers. Will certainly make again!!

It seemed like it was going to be too sweet for me, so I made a few modifications - I used Ghiradelli brownie mix which had chocolate chips in it, so I did not add the chips to the brownie batter. I also only added one Heath bar, not two. Then I added a layer of coffee ice cream (used Edy's slow churned coffee flavor and then the layer of "fudge" whcih I did not modify.
Incredibly fabulous. I stand by the coffee choice, and if you don't like coffee, I would do vanilla or even mint. I think dulce de leche, which I love, is overkill in such a sweet dish. Also, the brownie part really did not need more than one candy bar.
I skipped the strawberry sauce too! It is one of the best desserts I have ever made!

I made this for my Mom's birthday, it was a nice switch from traditional birthday cake! It came out great, very delicious and perfect for a hot day! The chocolate layer was a little thick and hard to cut, the next time I would use half of the recipe just for that layer. I also used coffee ice cream, a really nice balance with the chocolate. The strawberry sauce was a perfect compliment! Great recipe, a keeper with a big smiley face!
