This is one of my favorite salads! I like to make it using Kalamata olives instead of black olives.

This recipe was amazing and so light and tangy at the same time....Even though I forgot the olives......still delicious. I highly recommend it.

It was a bit different, but I liked it. I would probably have enjoyed a hearty spinach salad a little bit better to get my fruits/veggies in, but it was tasty, especially with the balsamic vinegar soaked into the grapefruit pieces.

I like the olives cut in halves in lieu of chopped!

................ that's all you can say when these combined flavors burst in your mouth!! I dont know if it's the salt on the grapefruit, or if it's the olives, or the basil,.............. It's all of these things. I am not a grapefruit lover, but I try anything Giada makes at least once, because the way she prepares her dishes, you just want to eat them right off the TV screen! I've learned to eat a lot of things I'm not crazy about, following Giada's recipes. This salad has become the salad I make most !!

My husband and I liked it very much. My five year old liked it (especially the black olives, my three year old and nine year old wouldn't take one bite. They'll come around. It's very light, and a different flavor combination for us. I will probably make it again.

As soon as I saw the salad, I knew it was a winner. I couldn't readily find fresh ruby grapefuit, but found Del Monte in the jar in the produce isection, drained the juice & viola! It worked wonderfully! I added chopped walnuts & raisins for healthy sweetness. If I had feta cheese on hand, I would have sprinkled it on as well! Great recipe. Try it & you'll do the happy dance too!!

A long time ago, an orange, red onion, and black olive salad was published in Pleasures of Cooking (the now long-defunct Cuisinart magazine. I'm sure it was back in the 70s or 80s. Barbara Kafka was the author and the recipe also appears in her book called Vegetable Love. She associates the recipe to the regions of Morocco and Algeria. Kafka's recipe had a cumin vinaigrette.

Grapefruit is as healthy as tomatoes, has a longer shelf life and is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. We are working on products with longer shelf lifes and this fruit is one of the best. Unfortunately some stores are holding it way longer than they would ever hold tomatoes...

    Yum...and thanks so much!
