I am a pregnant woman so I when I saw this on Giada's show yesterday, I had such a craving for it, I had to try it. It was super easy and sooo good. The flavor of the pastry, combined with the salty chicken and creamy avocado was devine. The mayo was great as well...and as I agree with the other comments, in that it probably wasn't the lightest sandwhich, you do get a lot of good monosaturated fats from the avocado and lean protein from the chicken. This is the one time where I don't care about the fat content of my food, and I thought it was great! Will definitely make this again:

Besides being high in fat and calories, the puff pastry did not really add anything to the sandwich. It just made it difficult to eat. Next time I think I will try it with some nice crusty whole grain bread that is thinly sliced and toasted lightly. It will not technically be a napoleon anymore, but it will certainly be healthier!

The cayenne mayo was a nice touch.

I watched this show yesterday and the sandwich looked delicious. I bought the ingredients today and was hoping it tasted as good as it looked. It was good but I felt something was missing. I did use homemade hummus on the sandwich instead of the mayo. Definitely not a light and healthy recipe but I wasn't making it because of that.

My husband and I are looking for 'Healthy' and 'Light' recipes, so I turned to the Food Network. Well, this being the beginning of a new year there are plenty of these types of recipes. Or so I thought. Wow! Was I wrong! Light??? Healthy??? Anyone is knows anything about puff pastry knows that it's FILLED with BUTTER. Is Giada really that naive? Is Food Network really that uncaring? I'll just go out and buy a cookbook - definitely not one written by any Food Network cook/chef. I have enjoyed Food Network for many years and have learned a lot from the shows and the website, but I have felt for awhile now, that it is what it is. TV shows - not reality. Beware if you have any dietary concerns. What they have to say may not be reality.

I did not make this recipe because it was light and healthy, I made the recipe because it just looked and sounded good. I found that the combination of the flavored mayo with the chicken was a nice blend as well as the avocado. I added some roasted red pepper to mine which brought this to another level. My husband took the left over ingrediants (minus the dough and made a salad and said it was a nice side dish too.

I will definately make this again and even experiement with other breads as well. Awesome taste.

I agree with Diane, but I actually calculated this out to be a lot more calories/fat than what she said. I just bought some Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry, and there is 2 full sheets in a package. Each full sheet is 6 servings. Each serving is 170 calories and 11 grams of fat. So ONE sandwich would be 1,020 calories and 66 grams of fat. And that is BEFORE the chicken, avocado and mayo! While this sandwich tastes awesome, its definitely not in the light/healthy category.

While this sandwich LOOKS delicious, it has no business being called light or healthy. The puff pastry Giada uses for "bread" has 510 calories and 33 grams of fat alone without the added fat/calories of the mayo and avocado! People who don't know any better will believe her that this sandwich is good for them! That is just not right!
