This is the 2nd year I've made these, I love them. They do keep better in the fridge, and as I dont have a stand mixer the dough doesnt set up as well so I fold a bit more sugar in, and since I love the peppermint flavor I always add a bit moreof that too. This year my 3 year old kept trying to steal the little balls as I was making them!

These were delicious and a big hit at a family party. When I was first making them I thought for sure I would need to add more sugar. But, I let the mixer go for a long time - maybe 5 minutes or so and the dough came together just like it is supposed to. I noticed after I cut them, the pieces were a little dry on the outside from rolling the log in the powdered sugar. I found if I rolled them in my hand a little longer when forming the balls, about 30 seconds, that brought the moisture back into them. I covered 3/4 with chocolate - leaving just enough to hold onto and show the color. I dipped quickly and twisted my wrist to keep the disc from breaking, and then put them in the fridge for the chocolate to firm up quickly. They came out delicious!! Good luck.

I loved these. So did my sister (who is not a peppermint fan and my dad, who loves peppermint patties almost as much as I do. He said that they had even more flavor then the store bought ones. I was so excited to find a lovely little Halloween treat that I could make that everyone would love.
I did have to add an extra two cups of sugar though. But that wasn't really all that bad.

Sadly, these are nothing like a peppermint patty. These are cloyingly sweet and sort of hard. The reason is, they need a base of something neutral to hold the sugar and extract. I tried other ones on the internet that use mashed potatoes and to my surprise they are great. More importantly, the texture is more similar to that peppermint patty we are all trying to replicate.

I give this 2 stars for giving me the motivation to find a better recipe.

I love all o Giada's recipes. I think she's great. But I was so looking forward to making these, and they were sooooo hard to do. I could not get the right consistancy. Either to stiff or too loose. They have been sitting for about 24 hrs., and still are too soft to handle. If anyone knows what the key is to making these, I sure would appreciate an answer. I must be doing something wrong. Thank you.

LOVED these. My sister in law asks me to make them all the time, and they are perfect for different holidays! I am making them for Christmas with green and red food coloring.

For taste I'd give this 5 stars but had to give it 3 due to ease of the recipe. I followed the recipe exactly and it didn't have the correct consitency AT ALL! I even watched the show again to see if I was missing something. It was very messy and extremely frustrating to keep having to add sugar---especially when it looked so easy on the show. I must have at least doubled the amount of sugar the recipe called for. That said, they were a big hit at the party. It made me feel better that even though they were super messy and a pain to make, people really liked them. I dyed mine pink (for my daughter's birthday party and I plan to make them again and dye them red or green for a Christmas party this weekend. If you can get the recipe down, they make a great party dessert and I love that you can dye them to match any color scheme.
