Although, I usually enjoy Giada's recipes, this one was not so good. The filling was too rich, and tasted and smelled cheese-like.

My family wasn't a fan of the cake either. They ate the cake, but the filling was clearly left alone.

The one thing enjoyable about this recipe was the hazlenut crunch brittle. It was interesting to make as I had never made brittle before, but I'd rather have eaten it alone than with the cake.

Overall, though, I'd say that this cake was too much of a hassle to make. I would not make it again.

I have no complaints about the cake except for the fact that the hazelnut crunch was very, very difficult to make. I tried twice and it still didn't turn out right. Way too much effort- using heath bar would have been better. The first time I cooked the sugar and water for 8 min (as recommended and it turned to snow (never turned brown. The second time, I took it off 1 min. earlier and after pouring over the nuts, it never really hardened. I ended up with candied hazelnuts, basically. Otherwise, the cake, especially the mascarpone frosting, was yummy! I would make again, but would never attempt the crunch part again.

I made this cake for my fiance for his birthday and he totally loved it! He does not normally even like chocolate that much, but the combination of the not-so-sweet but delicious mascarpone topping, and the crunchy hazelnuts were really really good! Yum! I will definitely make this one again!!

I made this cake for my fiance and his friends and although the icing was delicious alone, on the cupcake it was much too runny (and no I did not add too much cream and not at all the texture of a typical icing. It was more of a whipped cream than icing, so i turned my left over into a trifle which turned out better than the actual recipe! I have to say however that this is the first dessert recipe of Giada's that I have tried and not liked, her desserts are usually right on!

I've made this cake for my sister's birthday and for the Superbowl, on both occasions it was a HIT! Only thing that's a little tricky is making the hazelnut crunch. Other then that it's a great cake.

Just explaining what you did will impress your friends, much less having them taste it! I'm a big chocolate fan so I'm going to buy a more chocolaty cake mix next time. The carmalized sugar tasted just like cotton candy!
