I initially thought the amount of butter for the cookies was a misprint, but went ahead with the recipe anyway. In my mind I was thinking about the yummy polenta cookies at Il Fornaio Bakery which are not too sweet and have a crumbly texture...not at all greasy. Well, the first two cookie trays spread out into a thin uniform greasy disaster which went immediately into the trash. There was remaining dough I tried to salvage by kneading in about 1/3 c. flour and chilling again before rolling out. The cookies held together, yet were still greasy and gritty. I like the concept of this recipe, but I will use 1 stick of butter, 1 1/2 c. flour, 1/2 c. cornmeal instead of polenta and increase the chocolate a bit or add espresso powder. The orange filling tasted great, but maybe tone it down with 1/4 butter and add 1/4 c. cream cheese. I'll let you know how the changes turn out.

I did NOT like this recipe. I usually love GIada's recipes, but have never made a cookie or sweet recipe of hers. I was not impressed. Plus, I didn't like that you were basically eating 3 sticks of butter that tasted like orange zest. yuck

I saw this recipe one day and decided i had to try it. So i got all the correct ingredients from the super market and even double checked them. So i get home and start making the recipe. The instructions said you had to refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes or even up to a day. I let the dough chill for maybe 50 minutes and none of it stuck together. It all started to crumble and fall off the rolling pin. It got so bad i only made a small chunk of the dough which got me 5 cookies that had too much orange. I didn't even bother with the filling, i just stuck some cool whip in the middle and threw away the rest of the dough though it was sad to because of the thought that i wasted so much. I checked over the directions and i did everything it said. I don't what went wrong, me or the recipe? Any suggestions?

The coarse polenta was like eating raw pasta and I was afraid I might break a tooth. I will try again with fine ground cornmeal and let you know how they turn out. I could not bring myself to using the filling. Way too much butter for me. I filled the cookies with softened ice cream. By the way I used only 1 and 1/2 sticks of Smart Balance 50/50 Butter Blend and cut the sugar down to 1/2 cup. The cookies did not suffer. I would make large balls of dough and flatten into rounds with my fingers or the flat bottom of a glass next time rather than rolling and cutting. It was so much easier!! My only regret is that I did not read the reviews about the cornmeal before my first attempt.

We had guests for the holiday today and I made these cookies. It was my first time making them, and I was worried I'd screw them up, but they were incredible. The fusion of flavors, and crispy, crunchy texture were the talk of the party! Gone within 15 minutes! I found that I made the cookies a little uneven, and so the thinner ones got darker (ok, so i burned a few but the darker ones tasted great too. Not everyone is perfect like Giada, so it will take me more than once. But A+ to her! Great Cookies!

These "cookies" are nasty. It tastes like you're eating chocolate sand and butter. Waste of time & money - very disappointed. I literally feel sick. Do not make!!

I have be waiting for an opportunity to make these cookies, I bought the polenta a month ago. I am not one to bake cookies, as a trial run. I'm the only one in my house with a sweet tooth, if I made them... I'd eat them . At 46 iI'm still 127 lbs., and I'd like to stay that way My guest are coming in two hours I tasted one of these cookies. Giada refered to these cookies as cripsy, Nestles does crispy... biting into one of these cookies is like biting into raw rice. If that is the texture she was going for... O.K. I get it, unfortunately I don't think my guests would. My husband will be stopping by the bakery on the way home. The polenta needs to go.

I love cooking and baking, and I'm a loyal viewer. I've tried lots of your recipes. Usually delicious!! This was the only one I have to say was awful! I saw the show, followed the recipe exactly, and baked the cookies. My husband and I sampled the first ones out of the oven and I didn't even bother to bake the rest of the dough. The cookies were gritty and greasy.
