yum! so refrshing and classy! changes I propse: 1/2 cup less sugar + an additional 1/2 bunch (at least basil, some lime juice. used 12oz sparkling - probably wont use any next time. also, syrup doesnt have to be chilled. next time would try adding champagne or vodka.

VERY good lemonade - with a few alterations to the original recipe.
I've made this twice now (third batch's simple syrup is cooling as I type and have modified it each time as follows: 2 cups of water for the simple syrup AND 1 full liter of chilled lemon flavored sparkling water.

One word - DELICIOUS. The basil infusion is great and served with soda water ever so refreshing on a hot day.

I like sweet drinks but this one was waaay too sweet. Next time I will try the simple syrup with equal parts water & sugar. This one needed another cup of water added to cut the sweetness.

This was so delicious! I squished a half pint of blueberries through a mesh strainer and stirred them in too, and that made it totally over the top! Super sweet, though. It's great as a base to add in some sparkling water, and maybe some vodka too.

Overall the best lemonade receipe or best tasting lemonade i ever had. I would make only one change in this receipe is by adding twice as much water as receipe requires. This will make it less tart.

I forgot how amazing this is. I hadn't made it in a while. Wow, the basil in the simple syrup just adds something so special to the flavor. Do yourself a favor - MAKE THIS!!! It's awesome.

Delicious! An easy and refreshing drink for the summer. It was easy enough that my nine year old daughter could enjoy making it w/ me. I appreciated the simplicity and reveled in the change in flavor on a relatively common drink. The basil switched it up and took a simple beverage up a notch or two...oh and don't forget the sparkling water. I added just a bit more than was called for to make mine a little more sparkly and less sweet...personal preference. My daughter preferred the sweeter side of things...big surprise! :- I love quick treats like these that can make a simple cookout feel so "fancy". Thanks Giada!

The basil syrup recipe is flawed. Boiling basil leaves doesn't extract much flavor in itself; I tried this and it was a bust. In order to get a rich basil flavor, you must muddle the basil leaves. Crushing the leaves releases the oils, and, as a result, the flavor.
