This was a gr8 soup- I did however modify quite a bit.
1. no canned tomatoes so I used tom paste or celery- used grn papper
3. Added ancho chilli pepper, beef bacon, & cumin
4. used orzo instead of elbows
EXcellante :D

I made this tonight...I had some left over pork tenderloin from last night that I chopped up and added to it...I also used sea shell pasta instead of macaroni and the kids thought that was fun. Great recipe...I will use again!

Made this tonight and the entire family loved it including the picky husband, 3 year old and one year old! My only change was dried thyme. Was certainly more stew like than a soup, but that is how we prefer it. This is a keeper for our family!

very easy recipe and flavorful as well. As previous posters have said the amount of lentils to be used is off. If you use the lb bag it will make it stew like, it's an easy fix though, just add a little more chicken broth. My wife and I made the recipe as written and it's a keeper . Next time we will change the tomatoes to the diced kind with basil, garlic and oregano to kick up the flavours .

Really tasty! Didn't add the pasta and used a little over a half of bag of lentils because of the previous reviews. Will make regularly!

Hubby and I just made this earlier today. It is definitely yummy. I went back for thirds.
I am little confused about her conversion of a pound of lentils equals about 1 and 1/4 cups, though. I weighed it on my food scale and 1 and 1/4 cups of lentils equals about half a pound of lentils -- not a pound. I went with the 1 and 1/4 cups though as someone else said that they thought one pound was too many lentils and made the soup too thick. With only 1 and 1/4 cups, it was nice and soupy, but next time I will probably add more lentils; maybe not a full pound, but at least more than half a pound.
I also added in more carrots and celery, because I really enjoy lots of veggies in my soup. Also used four or five cloves of garlic instead of just two. I really love garlic; the more, the better.
I also didn't use fresh thyme. I used 1/4 tsp of dried thyme and that worked just as nicely. We also added a few pinches of dried rosemary.

Delicious!!! Made it with homemade chicken broth and left everything else as it was. My family loved it and I will continue to make this recipe in the future.

Yummy soup!!! I added rosemary, sage, and kale to the recipe and omitted the parmesan to make it vegan. I probably didn't add as much stock either, because I like my soups to be super thick. Great flavor and super hearty!!!

I thought this recipe was just OK. I followed the directions exactly as written, but just felt that it lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for. I did use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth, which may have contributed to this problem. It was, however, very easy to make.
