This was a wonderful soup! it had a nice sweet flavor. i replaced the bread with wheat bread for a healthier version and low fat cheeses. healthy and delicious!!!!

This was good but my bread cubes were way too soggy. Next time I will just have toasted garlic bread on the side for dipping and soaking up the soup that way. I also browned my onions in just 1 Tbsp. olive oil and 2 Tblsp of butter.

This recipe was super-easy, and also super-easy to make a modified, healthier version of.

I made the soup via the instructions using dried thyme because my grocery store was out of fresh thyme. Important to use less, because the thyme is strong.

I also added just a small amount of balsamic vinegar to the broth which gave it a slightly edgier taste that I liked.

Instead of the bread, I used a half-cup of short-grain brown rice. And instead of the fontina, I used a small amount of shredded sharp cheddar, which I put on top of the rice. I then poured the soup over the rice and cheese and got a really hearty and cheesy mouthful with each bite!

Love the broth-base of this and was a snap to modify. Thanks Giada!

I thought this it was easy to make, but the sweet onions made it more like a dessert. Next time I might mix regular yellow onions with a small amount of the sweet. I tend to prefer more savory dishes.

This is an easy, yummy take on the traditional french onion soup. It would make a fabulous first course, lunch or even weeknight dinner with a salad.

Giada does it again! Such an easy recipe. I had to use dried thyme because I couldn't find any fresh at my grocery store so I used a little bit less and it still turned out wonderful. I will make this again and again.
