When I'm trying a dish for the first time, I look under Giada's recipes... this was no exception and perfect! Love this. So simple and delicious!

Excellent!!! Quick and easy and not too exspensive to make. I used 4 beef bullion cubes dissolved in 4 cups of boiling water for the broth (very good and less salty than canned broth. I added 1 TBS. of flour to the onions during the last 2 mins. of sauteeing. I added 1/8 cup sherry and 1/8 cup white wine to deglaze the pan after cooking the onions. Subbed 1 tsp. fresh thyme with 1/2 tsp. dry. That's what makes this receipt great you can really play with it and make it your own.

This soup was very easy to make and I was surprised at how good it tasted with so few ingredients! I ended up buying Ciabatta rolls, cutting them in half, and then cut them into quarters and topped with Monterrey Jack and a very little Swiss cheese. I broiled them in the oven and they were ready to put on the soup already in bowls. My guests loved it!

Love this simple onion soup recipe! I too made a few changes and it is wonderful!!!! I cooked the onions longer and allowed the to carmelize and crisp a bit. I used cooking Sherry to deglaze the pan (about 1/4 cup. I toasted multi-grain crusty bread in the oven which made a healthier bread choice.

My husband and I had this for dinner last night for the (second time and the recipe feeds 2 of us w/ no leftovers (we only ate soup. I will double the recipe in the future. Fontina cheese is great with this recipe! Try it!

I was a little skeptical since this was significantly easier than traditional French Onion Soup. I made the recipe as stated with a couple minor mods. Reduced olive oil by half and added a tblsn butter. Fried onion longer till just a little colored (20min. Deglazed with a tbspn of sherry and added a tblspn flour. Finally, I pre-toasted the bread and then cubed. Really good and very quick.

Hi I made this soup right after I saw it on tv because i was in the mood for it. It turned out delicions and it was very easy. I substituted the beef broth with chicken broth one because im not a big fan of beef broth and the other because that's all I had. I also used farmers cheese and some old crusty italian bread I had it was delicious. YUMMY!!!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this. The thyme is a brilliant ingredient to add to this classic recipe. Really flavorful and I subsituted the beef broth with vegetable broth and it was still very, very good.
