This is, hands down, the BEST onion soup I have ever had!! And, I was never a fan of it, but my husband likes it, so I decided to give it a whirl. Easy to do and fast, the thyme is so subtle, yet gives it just the kick it needs to make the soup more flavorful. Love the fontina cheese, easily melts and much better than the swiss I've used in other recipes. Giada, you rock!! Thanks for another great recipe!

Delish!! It was better than the restaurant onion soup.

Loved the recipe. Not sure if I'd use fontina again-not gooey enough

Different than any other french onion soup that I've had. My brother could not stop talking about it. I think the sweet onions made it better than most restaurants. It was too easy to make. Talking about it now really makes me want to go whip up a batch. Only one negative...I'm not a big fan of the fontina, I would use mozzarella.

This is perfect on a cold overcast day. I couldn't find Fontina so I used smoked Provolone. I think the cheese could be a little more flavorful with the soup so next time I will look harder for Fontina. But, I will absolutely make this again!

This is the best and easiest onion soup that I have ever made. It goes together in minutes and tastes like it took hours to prepare.

This was fantastic. I couldn't get the bread, so I used french baquette, it was a little mushy, try to get the right bread, but the fontina was excellent, tasty change for the traditional french recipes.
