My wife and daughter bake about 140 dozen cookies for the holidays. This is my only contribution - and it is requested for many of the trays that leave the house. This year my wife asked that I make one sheet of red raspberry with walnuts and dark chocolate in addition to the traditional orange and walnut - it was a hit as well. We do use my wife's homemade sugar cookie dough - and then follow the directions for baking. Except I use a pizza cutter to cut the cookie base into size before cooling it.

Cookie recipe was OK, but not great. Used store bought cookie dough and made sure it was completely cooled. I used apricot, blackberry and raspberry preserves, orange marmalade and toasted walnuts. I did have trouble with the chocolate melting. I refrigerated overnite without cutting up and cut into squares the next day. The cookie dough was hard to cut and the longer they sat out, the softer the dough got and started to fall apart. My husband said they were good, but commented they fell apart easily. Had to be kept refrigerated until ready to serve. Finally, I did win first prize at cookie exchange for most appetizing looking cookies; however, I will pick an easier to make and transport cookie.

I am so disappointed in this recipe. I would give this zero stars if it would let me. I was excited to try something quick and easy for my holiday cookie tray, but aside from being quick and easy, it was absolutely horrible. These have no flavor and the store-bought cookie dough is awful. I usually bake everything from scratch and this was a huge reminder why. I tried the orange/chocolate combo as well as apricot/white chocolate and both were flavorless and overly sweet. I read other reviews that concur with this assessment, but chose to ignore them. I wish I had listened to those of you who gave the poor reviews - you were right! I threw the whole pan out. Total waste of time and money!

I have made this recipe several times and it is always a hit! I use a sugar cookie mix, because I like to add cinnamon to the cookie base. These cookies are beautiful and very yummy!

After reading many reviews, I used Smuckers Sugar Free Orange Marmalade and A small cup of Bakers dipping chocolate that I nuked and used on top. Was great.
One drawback was after I had put this recipe in my recipe book, and printed it out today, there was an advertisement right over the part that said bake the cookies first and let cool. GOOD THING I remembered the show, so I went back and checked the original recipe. So beware when you print recipes from your recipe box.

Love this recipe. Its fast and easy. Orange and chocolate are a winning combination. I used a little milk in my double broiler to melt the chocolate chips. This cookie square is so delicious that I would recommend making a double batch.
