10/19/12 Update: I read another reviewer's comment about reducing the balsamic vinegar first. I tried that tonight, boiling/simmering it by itself four 3-4 minutes before stirring in some sour cream. The reduction added sweetness and no additional sweetener was needed.

6/20/12 After trying this verbatim and trying w/out luck to contact someone at foodnetwork-dot-com to find out if the proportions were wrong, I came up with my own update:
    3 T. balsamic vinegar
1/2 c. creme fraiche oro sour cream
    1 T. Splenda

Love this with apple slices - great way to step away from eating candy and other sweets.

I have made this recipe several times, both for my family and for company, and it has always been enjoyed. You can't go into this recipe expecting chocolate! You are using balsamic vinegar, people! The only thing I would say is that the prep time took me a little longer than 8 minutes. This is a nice alternative recipe and it always provides a welcome change to fattening alternatives.

I think that the recipe is written incorrectly...shouldn't the balsamic reduce before adding sugar and creme fraiche? I tried it according to the website...disgusting.

I'm not sure if I did the recipe right but at the end the vinegar was still apparent in the taste.

I didn't mind it but my guests didn't care for it too much.

Since I am on weight watchers I made this with fat free half n half instead of the cream. It came out very good. I enjoy this recipe.

As a huge Giada fun, I would try any recipe from her show. I made this one to serve with fresh strawberries, and it took me almost 30 min to reduce vinegar to the syrup-like consistency. I added much more sugar than was suggested too. It came out okay in the end, but I still think the proportions in this recipe must have been wrong.

I could not find creme fraiche so I tried using whipping cream instead. The sauce was runny. I'm sure having the actual creme fraiche would have been better. However, while I was eating it, I was just wishing the whole time that it was chocolate sauce instead of balsamic cream.

Could the measure for the balsamic vinegar be wrong? It would have worked with perhaps a tablespoon, but not what was recommended in the recipe. Made a great salad dressing though.
