Use grain alcohol and leave the peels in the alcohol in a dark cool place for 2 weeks or until they turn white and brittle. Vodka gives it a "taste" that interferes with the orange flavor. It's supposed to be strong, not weak like orange Kool-Aid. It should be at least 90-100 proof.

I agree with all of the reviews below! A fabulous after dinner drink. Refreshing and fabulous. I love lemoncello but love that this isn't a bit harsh. Very smooth and comforting! We used the leftover orange peels to make candied orange slices dipped in chocolate. A wonderful compliment to the orangecello.

I love it! I really like lemoncello but like oranges more so this really suited my taste. Took it to a dinner party and everyone loved it and wanted the recipe. Perfect for an after dinner sweet!

A favorite for anyone who likes citrus. Delicious straight up, but I also use it to make an orange martini (orangecello, fresh oj, & cointreau that's extra smooth.

I made this a few weeks ago and it is already an evening tradition before a/o after dinner. Not too sweet and the sweetness perfectly balances the light bitterness of the zest. I've long been a fan of Campari and I still am--this is an awesome alternative to get that wonderful citrus zest flavor. I suspect we will finish this batch before too long so I may have to try lemoncello next or make both and compare. Thank you Giada for another awesome addition to how we enjoy dinnertime together.

Love this recipe. Have made Giadas's Limoncello recipe as well and love them both. Easy to make, and a very nice gift for your friends and family as well as yourself.

I have made this for the past 2 years and gift it madson jars for christmas.Everyone asks for the recipe. It is very easy to make large amounts so I can have lots of jars. Just add cookies and mini breads an amazing inexpensive personal touch gift.

A few suggestions for those who want to improve upon this recipe or make it their own. I had read about a similar recipe where the orange zest was oven dried first, so I tried that, and it made for a different but great taste. Try taking some or all of your zest and drying it in your oven at a low setting (150-200 F for about an hour. Some of the sugars in the peel will caramelize and the flavor will become more complex. Also, try using a small touch of cinnamon, and finally try neutral grain spirits as they have less characteristic flavor than vodka, just dilute with water after aging.
