Since going to school in the south and learning the joys of bread pudding, I've been meaning to make some for my parents in Ohio (who've never tried it and finally got around to it over break. They loved it, and it was so easy for me to make. I did alter the recipe after reading previous comments. I used 2 lb. of paska bread with raisins in it and left the crust on. For the sauce, I used nonfat milk instead of whole, cooking it a little longer than suggested. For the bread pudding, I used 7 instead of 8 eggs, and 2c. nonfat milk and 1/2 c. egg nog for the whole milk. I'm looking forward to making this again, and trying new ingredients/flavors. Thank you Giada for a wonderful recipe that's so delicious and easy to experiment and have fun with!

This is a wonderful recipe but I did make a few changes.

My first change was decreasing the 8 eggs to 6 so the pudding wasn't so "eggy." I have another favorite bread pudding recipe that only calls for 5 eggs and it's wonderful. So 8 eggs just seemed like way too many.

I also used a 1-1/2 lb. loaf of panettone because that's what I had on hand.

And I reduced the sugar to 1 cup instead of 1-1/2. That just seemed like too much sugar.

Finally, I used Godiva chocolate liqueur instead of amaretto. The sauce was superb.

Great recipe, and I'll definitely make it again!

I made Ina's with the croissants and it tasted lie scrambled eggs! Yuck! I followed Giada's recipe except that I used 2 lbs like everyone recommended and kept it in the oven 10-15 minutes longer and everyone loved it!!! Great recipe! A definite keeper and super easy!

I made this for a Christmas dinner party last year and it was such a hit I made it again for New Year's Eve. And... I had to pull up the recipe to make it again this year. I serve mine with a dollop of Italian gelato (rum raisin is my favorite but any flavor will work and then drizzle the sauce over the top. Rave Reviews!

the feed back that I got from everyone else was " delicious ". The smelled as good as it tasted. It was a bit eggy, but all in all it was fantastic. I would make it again, but cutting back on one or two eggs. Thank you Giada.

This is so delicious and easy to make. My family asks for it often. Since Panettone is not always available, you can substitute with challah bread. Also, my family loves the amaretto sauce so I always double the recipe.

Believe it or not, around the holidays, you can find panettone bread in the food section at, yes: Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls! And they are of great quality. I usually purchased several, repack them in freezer bags and freeze them to make this bread pudding recipe during the rest of the year. Really great tasting. I also use it to make Giada's great French toast recipe. You've got to try that recipe as well!
