The sweetness of the balsamic vinegar was just the right thing to counter the slight bitterness of the treviso. I loved the dish! Though I found the veggies turned out a tad too soft. I will give them less cooking time next time I make it.

Oh! This was not my favorite and I love every other Giada recipe I've tried.
We used radicchio because we could not find treviso. We cut back the balsamic based on the reviews, but this pasta was too bitter. The first bite was good, but after that we couldn't stand to eat anymore.
I think I will try this again, but will use spinach or kale instead to see how that tastes.

Very good! My husband and I particpate in a local CSA, so we tried to find a recipe we could use a lot of our weekly fresh ingredients in. This one was perfect. We used swiss chard in place of the treviso and we added broccolini as well. I really liked the balsamic vinegar. We also had goat feta, so we used that in place of the goat cheese. I agree that it was a little salty (I think everything is salty; my husband didn't think so, but he likes salty dishes. It tasted great the next day even! I will definitely make again - maybe subsitute another cheese for the goat cheese. I really liked it, but my husband thought the goat cheese was too overpowering.

It was delicious. We loved it. BUT--too many calories. Perhaps cutting down the cheeses would be helpful, but the cheesy flavor was fabulous. I used radicchio, but did not find it bitter as I usually do.

Loved the combo of the goat cheese, basil and radicchio. If I were to make this again, I think I would omit the balsamic or replace it with red wine. I liked the color but the balsamic was way too strong for this dish. My fiancee liked everything but said he thought it was too bitter as well. If you are about to make this, I'd skip the balsamic and sub in something sweeter. Good luck!

This recipe sounded so good on paper. I read and reread the recipe and the only substitution I made was radicchio for the treviso. I love strong flavors but found the basalmic vinegar in the recipe was overpowering. I couldn't taste anything else. I even had fresh basil from the garden and that was wasted because of the overpowering flavor of basalmic vinegar. This was not an inexpensive dish to make. My family and I were all very disappointed.

I found this to be amazing!! I made some changes to the dish. I only could find radicchio in my grocery store. I also used less parmesan cheese and goat cheese then the recipe called for. But the goat cheese melted perfectly into the pasta making it creamy. I also used a 25 year aged balsamic vinegar that is awesome. I also did not use a lot of salt but I don’t use a lot of salt in cooking normally. Would defiantly make this again!!

I did tweak the recipe just a little as I read some of the comments before making it. It also helped that I saw Giada make this on her show. I used radicchio as I could not find treviso. The radicchio had a bitter taste to it when raw so I was reluctant to use all of it. I used just a little over half of it. But found once it started cooking in the sauce it tasted much better. I did not add salt as one commenter said it was too salty. However, I did use regular chicken broth (not low sodium as the recipe calls for. I also used only about 8 oz. of goat cheese as I found that to be enough. All and All I really liked this pasta dish. In fact I am eating the leftovers from last night as I type this review. Try it!

This penne was very tasty. I could not find the Treviso so i substituted more spinach! Tangy and yummy. I followed the rest of the directions perfectly and it was wonderful. Sea Salt instead of Kosher Salt but not to salty. I added chicken broth to the salad right before the second meal with teh leftover salad since it dried out a bit. Even my picky 9 year old ate it (after picking off the spinach of course
