I loved this reipe! I served it at a dinner party and it was a huge hit. Not only does it taste amazing but it looks equally impressive. I didn't have cinammon sticks or vanilla beans so I replaced them with vanilla extract and ground cinammon which worked well. Try this one out for the Holiday's.

Pretty good with ginger ale and honey instead of the wine! Yummy

I made this for a "ladies lunch" dessert. What a hit! I made the night before and assembled after lunch. Served with a tart frozen vanilla yogurt and it was a perfect sweet/tart balance. Looked so impressive when serving! Thanks Giada!

These were so easy to make and everyone loved them. I used vanilla extract instead of the bean.

This is a great recipe...did not have cinnamon sticks or vanilla bean so...used powdered cinnamon and vanilla extract....was still very good. Made it again tonight....a must have with it...the ice cream!!

I served these for a sudden dinner party, when there was little time to prepare a "fancy" dessert. This came together quickly, and left the kitchen with a heavenly aroma to greet my guests. I garnished this with a ginger snap and some finely chopped candied ginger. An impressive dessert which didn't interfere with production of the rest of the meal.

I was so excited to make this recipe because I love Giada and my father loves poached pears. I followed the recipe exactly as written and the syrup was way too sweet. I guess I was expecting more of a holiday flavor because of the cinnamon, vanilla and fresh ginger, but those flavors did not totally come through. I didn't even put a lot of syrup on the pears and the sweetness was sickening. It made the ice cream taste bland.Still love you Giada.

I made these last night for Thanksgiving and they were a huge success! It was the first time I was doing all the side dishes and dessert. I usually don't eat pears, but my mother loves them and I thought it tasted so good with the syrup and vanilla ice cream. After reading the reviews, I did core the pairs. Makes a big difference. I also sliced the bottoms flat so they would stand in the pot and not tip over. I used Sutter Home Moscati instead of the one Giada mentions since I couldn't find it anywhere. Only paid $7 for it which I couldn't complain about. Everyone loved it. They thought it was such a lovely change from the usual holiday pies and presentation is very easy. Paired with tea or coffee, everyone was boasting how it was like going to a high scale restaurant for dessert. When I told them it was Giada's recipe, they said they were fans of hers as well! Thank you Giada for this recipe. New family holiday dessert tradition that will be making a repeat every year!

I made this as one of the desserts for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. I used a $6 bottle of Gewurtz from Trader Joes. We did slice the pears before serving them. It was really great to be able to make this early in the day and let it sit and not have to worry about doing anything when things got hectic at mealtime or afterward.
