I made this today. I used red onions instead of yellow and used three smaller peppers (yellow/red/orange instead. Everything else I did the same. I thought I'd need to add a little Parmesan cheese on top of the sandwich, but it was so flavorful I didn't need to!

These were fantastic!! I used Red wine as that is what I had at the house already. The leftover I put in Red Beans and Rice the next day! YUMMO. I used spicy Italian Sausage.

I've made this recipe several times and it's always very flavorful. The only thing I do different is roast my red peppers in lieu of sauteing. We like the sweetness that roasting brings out. It's a great Sunday dinner!

This was a very good and easy version of sausage and peppers, although it is a bit time-consuming. Had to change a few things because I made it with what I had on hand: red onions instead of yellow, red and green peppers, and dried basil. I'm anxious to try it with fresh basil, which I love. I think this will be my go-to sausange and peppers recipe.

I have also been making this for over 3 years and we make it as the recipe states every time. Sometimes we use pork sausage if they don't have turkey at the store (we like the turkey sausage because it isn't as greasy and I often use dried basil or italian table wine instead of marsala depending on what I have on hand. We almost always serve this with penne instead of bread, though, because it makes a soggy sandwich.

I have been making this recipe for about 3 years and absolutely love it. It has the right blend of spices-the only substitute that I make is dried basil instead of fresh as fresh is not alway available at home when I need it. Otherwise it is a simple and tasty recipe!

I used vegetable broth instead of the marsala and it worked out great!

I didn't have wine and fresh basil I just used dried basil. The sausage, peppers and onions still had good flavor. I liked the addition of the herbs and seasonings, it helps give the sausage more flavor, sometimes the sausage from the store can be bland. My sandwich was great, I don't know what some posters are talking about, I guess they expect a miracle.

Time to make dinner and no time to get to the store. Freezer contained a package of frozen pork sausage links and Trader Joe's fire-roasted pepper mix. Found this recipe and Voila! Dinner is served! I used a few tablespoons of oil to brown the sausage in a non-stick skillet, added the pepper mix (which included onions, a can of italian tomatoes (which included basil, garlic, and oregano, and 1/2 cup of the wine. I cut up the sausage, tossed it back in and let it thicken. Whole thing was done in under 20 minutes. I served with left-over cheddar cheese grits (because that's what I had and it was great!

Alan, based on what your wrote, it appears your were in the middle of cooking the recipe when you wrote your review, and possibly did not read thru the recipe before you started cooking, so you may have already answered your own questions, but just in case....you brown the meat for ten minutes, take it out of the pan, but you put it back in the pan after you add the tomatoes and wine, and braise it for about 20 minutes or until fully cooked. I LOVE this recipe, and make it about twice a month. However, I agree with the other reviews that it doesn't make the best sandwich, but is fantastic with mashed potatos or even just the meat and sauce.
