I made this tomato sauce to go with Giada's mini meatballs, and it is out of this world. The sauce alone tasted so rich and flavorful...way better than what I could have bought at the store. I modified it slightly by only using 1 tablespoon of olive oil to saute the veggies in, b/c I'm watching what I eat. I also used an immersion blender to puree the sauce. It was a lot easier to do in the cooking pan, and saved on clean up.

Love this sauce. I used it for the first time when making Giada's chicken parm recipe which included this sauce. In that recipe for simple tomato sauce there are 4-6 basil leaves which are added with the tomatoes and bay leaves. They have been omitted from this recipe. If you tried this recipe without the basil and liked it...try it with the basil and you will love it!

If you use a better grade of tomato you wouldn't need to sweeten it up with celery and carrots or sugar, yuck.

This sauce is super delicious and easy! You will never buy tomato sauce from the grocery store again! I usually make 2 batches at a time and freeze a bunch of containers so that way I can alway have homemade sauce even on a busy work day.
