I followed the spaghetti recipe to a T, which I don't normally do, but did pan fried breaded chicken cutlets rather than the beef tenderloin. I tossed the spaghetti w the parm before adding the sauce, as Giada often does. Adding the reserved pasta liquid is a must if you don't want to add all that evoo. I did both. I was afraid the smoked almonds would be too much because they have such a strong flavor, but it really worked. The lemon zest and juice is a must, as my fiancé was able to specifically pick it out and say he liked it --this is coming from a man who, before me / Giada, was perfectly content eating subway sandwiches and microwave dinners. I cant say I would change anything. Didn't even add any salt or pepper.

I should have realized that with the olive oil and nuts, this is like a pesto. It was too rich for me.

Oh my goodness! This was an unexpected mix of flavors that I absolutely loved. I worried about not cooking the sauce but it seemed so fresh when prepared this way! The smoked almonds were wonderful and I almost didn't put them in as I don't used almonds much when I cook. The filet was an amazing touch, especially with the Herbes de Provence. Great combination of flavors and as Giada says, great at room temp! I just did a test run before I serve to company but I definately will! Amazing and unique dish.Giada is an amazing teacher!

This is really good, my whole family loved it! I used appx 3/4lb of whole wheat spaghetti, as I prefer this type of pasta and like my pasta dishes saucier. I tossed it all with parmesan cheese, and sprinkled the almonds on top. I could not find smoked almonds so I toasted some unsalted almonds in the oven.

Okay, I made this today.... what an ugly mess... with the tomatoes and all that basil the sauce turns out brown! Yuk.
Plus, are we NOT supposed to cook the sauce, or did I miss something?
Now I have to come up with something else for my 10 dinner guests... Prego is looking good after spending ALL MY money on this cuz of all the 5 star ratings... was this a joke or what? I fell for it

Leave out the beef and you have a modernized version of a classic Sicilian recipe, pasta con il pesto alla trapanese. Giada uses smoked almonds instead of ordinary blanched ones, and adds a little lemon zest and juice, which I find lend a refreshing zing to the dish - especially welcome on a hot summer day. Goes to show how subtle changes can improve even an otherwise already very tasty dish.
