Really good! I usually don't like black coffee, it has to be a cappuccino, mocha, or something like that. My husband only likes black coffee or espresso. We loved it! We have an Italian espresso maker but used my Nespresso, which I adore. If you use that, each shot of espresso is 1/4 cup, so you can plan accordingly. I also agree with another reviewer. It is too sweet! So even though I used 1/2 cup of water and 3/4 of sugar next time I'll use 1/2 cup each.

Love it!! This tastes way better than a crappy Starbucks latte. I love making my own syrup because it really only takes 5 min.
I didn't feel like beating cream so I just added half and half instead - it came out delicious.

As a college student, this is a great drink to make while studying!! Waaaaay better than paying $4 for a Starbucks...(even though I am a regular customer there...This was really good. It would be great iced in the summer, as well.

I loved the flavor ideas in this recipe but I don't have an espresso machine and I wanted a lower calorie option. Here is what I did: I brewed a STRONG pot of coffee to substitute for the espresso. In addition, after the simple syrup was made and I added the spices, I also added skim milk to the syrup. I eliminated the whip cream. I combined 1 cup coffee and then the simple syrup/milk mixture to taste. This satisfied my need for "coffee with something extra". I will be making this one again!

I bought your expresso roast from target and this recipe was on the back of it. When I bought it I was about to stop at starbucks which is in target, but I decided to go home and make this one. OMG am I glad I did. As I was drinking it I felt like I was on vacation sitting in a park relaxing it was so tasty.. I called over my friend and told her to come have a cup an she was going to take hers with her in a travel mug I told her it looked to pretty to put ina travel mug and needless to say she took one sip and sat down and kept drinking. Thanks Giada!!!

This is a wonderful warm, spicy drink, BUT. . .it is very, very sweet. Two tablespoons of sugar syrup to four ounces of Americano will put you in a sugar coma. I used two teaspoons of syrup to six ounces of coffee and it was perfect for my friends and family. The recipe is superb, so don't be afraid to adjust the syrup to coffee proportions to suit your individual taste. Enjoy!
