Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 6 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Juice and zest of 2 large limes
  • 3 black tea bags, such as Twining's Irish Breakfast Tea
  • Ice

Directions

Bring 6 cups water, sugar, thyme, cinnamon sticks, lime juice and lime zest to a boil in a 5-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Remove the pan from the heat and add the tea bags. Steep the tea for 15 minutes. Remove the tea bags and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, about 1 hour. Strain the mixture into a pitcher and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Pour the tea into 4 ice-filled glasses and serve.

Can't believe there aren't more reviews for this great recipe. Love would be an understatement for how my boyfriend feels about this tea. I think obsessed would be a more fitting word. He begs me to make it on a weekly basis and consumes a pitcher in no more than 2 days. The tea is light, refreshing, and easy to make. It is unlike any iced tea I have ever tried, not in a strange way but in a new and refreshing way. A great alternative to other teas and coke and also much better for you. The only change I make when preparing is half a cup of sugar as what is listed is not sweet enough once it gets watered down with ice. I think kids would enjoy this tea as well.
