Ingredients

  • 1 quart chocolate ice cream or gelato, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 to 3/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper*
  • 6 strawberries
  • Special equipment: 6 (8-ounce) milkshake glasses

Directions

Place the milkshake glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes.

In a 6-cup capacity blender, combine the chocolate ice cream, milk and cayenne pepper.

Blend for 15 to 20 seconds until smooth.

To serve, divide the milkshake mixture between the frosted glasses. Cut a slit into each of the strawberries and place on the rim of each glass.

*Cook's Note: Start with 1/4 teaspoon of the cayenne pepper and increase by 1/4 teaspoon increments until the desired spiciness is reached.

    So so good!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made these delicious milkshakes for a small dinner party I had. The girls were ready to try and the guys were pretty... hesitant. Everyone, especially the guys, just loved them. I had to run out and get more ice cream so we all could have a second. A fantastic little bite right at the end. So fun!Read more

    Wondertful!

I would not have tried this except I was a great bakery once and they had all of these chocolate candies made with different... spices and peppers. I asked if they sold a lot of them and the salesperson said "we sold a ton of them. Spicy chocolate is very popular all over the world. The spices really bring out the flavor of the chocolate." So I gave one of the chocolate candies a try and LOVED it. I gave this a try because of that experience and because my daughter wanted to make it along with the wonderful pub burgers and fried apple and onion rings also from this same episode. ALL were outstanding!Read more

Used organic white pepper as a substitute.

The pepper and strawberries give the chocolate an exotic twist. Serve in 3oz chilled classes for those counting calories.

These milkshakes are so different to anything I have ever tasted. They are wonderful. We used Haagen Daaz Chocolate ice... cream. That works really well! Thanks Giada!Read more
