My friend's 94 yr old mother talked about making struffoli before xmas, so when my friend saw your xmas show, taped it and off we went 4 days before xmas to his mamma's to make. She had her recipe, we had yours and he had shown her yours and it was the old italian, we didn't do it that way. We tweeked hers with the zest and both batch came out great. My friend's wife never liked struffoli and when she tasted yours with the orange and lemon, she loved it and they made another batch the next night. I took what I had away with me to my friends for xmas, who is Italian and wanted to know where the rest of the batch was... I am with Raffy on the ball rolling, as I was the ball roller... I love Raffy... You and Raffy should do a show together.. The old vs new.. But it would be a delight to all watching. My friend made your stracotta today for dinner, it was also wonderful.

I made this recipe for the first time for an Italian friend of mine for their 40th Wedding Anniversary! I think it turned out great, thanks to Giada's video that helped me greatly! It was time consuming but well worth it. I put my finished "Struffoli" on one of my Antique Platters and delivered it. Hope my friends are enjoying it!

Love this recipe. They weren't kidding when they said it took 4hrs but it was all worth it,delicious.Next time I will use a little less honey,my children and husband didn't care for it only because they don't like the taste of honey. It also looked soo pretty. Will make this again next year for sure.

I remember making these with Grandma, although she called them something that sounded like buonucatta. She was from Sicily, not Naples. I made her recipe and then yours. Your recipe is amazing and, side-by-side with Grandma's, yours wins hands down! I also made a "beegan" variety (that's vegan, but with a bee product = the honey with egg substitute and Earth Balance for the butter and it turned out GREAT. I love the citrus flavor and will make this recipe our new family favorite. :o Warning: Don't be tempted to taste one as it comes out of the hot honey. Ouch! My lip should heal in a few days. :o/

Growing up in the Bronx, and later on LI, I watched my mom make these for Christmas. But Giada, even my mom, who was born in Naples... would have to agree these are EXCELLENT!thank you for bringing back a Christmas tradition I can share with my grandkids.

I've been making struffoli since I was a little girl, first with mom and grandma, then with my kids and husband. Giada's recipe was great and I look forward to continuing the tradition with grandkids. So sad that tamipoland's try was unsuccessful. Struffoli is a great way to get everyone baking together, sharing Christmas love. Thanks, Giada.

This is an excellent recipe, and really not too difficult to make. The lemon and orange zest give the dough such a fresh flavor. My young children loved the cooked dough balls, but not the honey glaze. This recipe (although it would deviate from Italian tradition would be really good with some sort of lemon glaze.

I would like to thank Giada and the Food Network for this recipe. I have made Struffoli three times, each time using a different recipe. This is the fourth recipe I’ve tried and by far the best. My grandmother used to make this around Christmas time and it was a treat my sister and I enjoyed immensely. The flavor from this recipe was wonderful! I did add a bit more zest (doubled the amount than the recipe called for and I also added tangerine and orange zest to the honey syrup. Served it for a family holiday dinner last night and it was a hit.

Made this with my sister and my 90 yr old mother. We are Italian and my mother made struffoli in the past. We all watched the video first. My 90 year old Italian mother put up a fuss saying "Since when do watch a video how to make stuffoli" If the Food network was in my house I swear we would have been on TV. Giada, being Italian, would understand. We followed the recipe to the tee. We did omit the hazelnuts due to family allergies. MY 90 yr old mother bulked at the food processor. "we never used a machine for struffoli". At the end of the day my 90 year old mother said it was the best. We froze them and will finish the struffoli for Christmas Eve. Great recipe and great family fun rolling the struffoli.

Excellent representative of a childhood favorite. I agree with previous posters that you should roll the balls very small as they do nearly double when cooked. Get the family in there helping with the rolling makes that tedious job go quickly. If your'e new to this Christmas time tradition, give it a try and make it your own.
