I have to agree with the other reviewers...I thought it was too sweet when I first made it following the original recipe. I made it again and sweetened it to my taste and I love it! It's so fun to surprise people with this unique smoothie. I've served it to 6 people and they all finished their servings so I know they were being honest about liking it!

This was a great way to use up basil that keeps growing like crazy in our garden! But I thought the amount of simple syrup made it too sweet so I only used half the amount the 2nd time & it was perfect. Surprisingly refreshing!!

I was so happy to see this recipe and make something so different and delicious with basil! I grow it every year and absolutely love it. I made tea with it last year--but this drink is so much better. Thanks Giada, for a healthy summer drink.
I used splenda and that worked fine.

This is one of the best things you will ever drink! Sooo refreshing. My kids beg me to make this smoothie all the time. My mother calls me and asks me to come over & bring the ingredients with me everytime we have relatives in town so I can make it for them, too! This smoothie is simply fantastic! I do not use quite a full cup of sugar because that is just a little too sweet for me and takes away from how refreshing it is.

WOW!!!!! The Sweet Basil Smoothie was easy to make (after chopping the required mountain of basil, and the taste was beyond incredible. It was two glasses of green heaven (I finished off the whole batch myself. Next time, I might try using slight less sugar...but the recommended recipe is a great starting point. I'm growing a few different varieties of basil (Thai, Purple, Cinnamon... so we'll see how those work out next. Any on-the-fencers about this recipe, take a leap of faith, this was delicious beyond words.

Loved this smoothie. To make a large one person portion or 2 small portions, I use 1/2 c. plain nonfat yogurt, 1/2 c. fresh basil leaves, 1/2 c. ice, and 1/4 c. of the lemon simple syrup. I have a sweet tooth and like my smoothies sweet but using just 1/4 c. of the lemon simple syrup recipe was perfect. The flavor of basil with the tanginess of the yogurt and citrus is a lovely combination.

I absolutely love this smoothie! I reduced the sugar in the simple syrup to 1/2 cup and added lemon juice from half of a lemon plus the zest. I used greek yogurt which made it thicker. This is a great relaxer smoothie!
