When giada made this on the network, she used a grill pan. The recipe says griddle, then talks about grill marks. Confusing. I used a grill pan and it was a problem. The butter melts between the ridges, doesn't make good contact with the bread, burns and smokes. I think it will be better to butter the bread instead of the pan. Otherwise, the caramelizing of the cinnamon sugar on the ciabatta was fabulous and unusual and got raves.

my mom used to make this for me when i was a little girl. brought back memories. except i use plain white bread...use spreadable butter so i don't have to melt the butter....and just put it in a convection oven/toaster instead of grilling. taste just as great. it works w/ just sugar too but i love the cinnamon sugar combo.

I made this recipe, but with some slight alterations: 1 Toasted bread in toaster (I like to toast the bread, as it gives a nice, crisp, toasty crunch. 2 Spread with butter (I like to use butter here...it adds a rich, buttery flavor!. 3 Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon (the sugar makes it taste really sugary, and the cinnamon? Well, it gives a nice spicy, cinnamony "kick".

I had to write this because one of your raters said the kids will say thanks when they taste this. The first thing my kids said was, "This is so yummy! Thanks, Mama!"
