I made this cake for my husband for Father's day. The cake itself tasted really great, so citrusy and fresh, and so easy to make since it's from a box. For the cake itself the only change that I had to make was slightly less orange juice because the only white cake mix I could find was 3 oz less than what the recipe indicates was used. I don't like American buttercream frosting so I made a change there as well.

For my frosting I mixed cream cheese, greek yogurt, powdered sugar, brown sugar (because I didn't have enough of the powdered, and seedless raspberry jam. The other change I made for the decoration was that I took sliced almonds and pressed it against the sides of the cake because my frosting was more runny than a buttercream.

Great and easy cake to make.I've changed out the raspberries for strawberries. Just as good
The frosting is way too sweet and makes too much. I us less sugar .

This cake tastes great and is nice and moist. I zested two oranges, and the orange flavor is lovely. The combo of orange and raspberry is very good, but I found the frosting too sweet, even though I only added three cups of the powdered sugar -making it a little runny, although it firmed up in the refrigerator. I may look for a different frosting recipe, perhaps a raspberry cream cheese frosting would be nice.

The cake was delicious but the frosting was TOO sweet.
Make sure you read and prep everything before you start to actually mix and bake the batter. It'll be much easier since the recipe has a lot of components.

This is a great recipe. I did alter it slightly. I had no creme fraiche as it is not available where I live so I used sour creme after searching the net for a good substitute. Also, I do not like raspberries so I decided to keep the recipe all orange and used orange marmalade instead. I like that this is a versatile recipe. You could use another fruit combo if you wanted it to taste different and it'd still taste fabulous.

This recipe is fabulous! I modified it a bit by using fresh squuezed orange juice and the zest of the orange and used orange flavor cake. For the filling in the middle I used frosting that instead of jam, I used some defrosted raspberries and and some fresh berries as well that I mixed into half of the frosting. The juice from the frozen berries I strained and used the juice as the liquid that gave this frosting on the top a great taste and pretty color. It gave this frosting an out of this world taste. The cake got rave reviews by all!

Delicious!!! The only thing is that when I took my cakes out of the oven to let cool, they deflated. Can anyone suggest what I can do to keep this from happening again? The cakes were still good but it had the texture of a pound cake.

I have made this cake for family and friends birthdays for several years now. It is a hit every time. Today I will be making it for a family dinner; we are meeting the new beau! Thanks Giada, for sharing with us Todd's favorite!

    VERY GOOD. TASTY!!

However, only 4/5 stars due to the frosting which was ABSOLUTELY WAY TOO SWEET. Don't get me wrong it was delicious, but overwhelming (like pure glucose. I would definitely recommend less sugar and more jam...the raspberry jam was delicious..will be using it more often. I get what Giada was sort of going for with the sweetness of the frosting and the tart fruitiness of the jam..almost like a raspberry cream cookie, except this being a cake, the frosting is just too SWEET.

But do try it at home, it tastes great. And definitely add fresh raspberries/strawberries. I used both.
