The cake is fantastic and the idea of pairing a raspberry frosting with an orange cake is excellent! I took the suggestions of other reviewers and cut the powdered sugar in the recipe by half--and it was still insanely sweet! I asked family members to test the frosting and it was too sweet for everyone. I scrapped the frosting and used a cream cheese frosting with some raspberry jam added. The end result was absolutely delicious!

I saw Giada do this cake on her show today. I thought, how could this be good. I NEVER use a cake mix. But I thought I will try. Well, I got the ingredients and made it. I made my own c. Fraiche recipe by doing 1/6 sour cream and 1/6 whipping cream. The rest the same, maybe a bit less of icing sugar (you can use less. I used a white cake mix (Betty Crocker, although I was sure I saw an orange cake mix. I did it in my nordicware anniversary pan. Just used the icing, next time I will do a think layer of raspberry jam then the icing. Really good. And, so pretty in pink.

This cake is delicious! Possibly one of the best I've ever had, and it was super easy too. The cake itself is moist and beautifully flavored with orange; it would probably work well with a variety of different icings, but the raspberry compliments the orange perfectly. It was a big hit at my neighborhood Easter party.

I made this cake for my husband's birthday and he loved it!!!! When I decided to make it for him I didn't tell him, because I knew he would want me to make a normal simple cake. This cake is anything but normal and very simple to make, especially for someone who royally messes up anything she bakes. I loved everything about this cake and it will become one of the stable cakes I make. Thank You Giada!!!!!!!

I had to try this recipe after watching the episode. It looked yummy and light. I was not disappointed in the results. I made cupcakes instead of cake, and used cream cheese in the frosting. The orange cake was light and very delightful. I did think the raspberry jam made the frosting too sweet, and will use a vanilla cream cheese frosting the next time.

I could have sworn that on the broadcast, she specified orange cake mix. So, I searched high and low for it and finally found it. But surprise! When I printed out the recipe, it called for white cake mix. Nevertheless, I made it with orange Duncan Hines but used only a cup of orange juice with 1/3 cup water. I also substituted mascarpone for the creme fraiche as I didn't have any creme fraiche on hand and tend to think it's a bit too tangy for sweet treats. I mixed just enough icing sugar with the cheese, jam, and butter to get the right consistency for the frosting. The whole thing was just magnificent! Absolutely the most moist, light, and yummy cake ever. As another reviewer noted, it's a wonderful change from the traditional chocolate cakes (which are sometimes very dense. Perfect for spring and summer desserts. Try this and you'll be purely delighted...I promise.
