Great picnic potato salad. So simple, no mayo getting rancid from sitting out in the sun, and I make it vegan by using tofu dogs instead of beef/pork dogs. Everyone enjoys it!

This is what my mom used to make for my brother and me when we were kids. I just made this again, following this recipe, and it turned out great! :

My teenager is taking Italian and tomorrow is International Dinner night at the high school. He did all of the work himself with me watching and providing guidance. We increased the recipe except for the hotdogs and added some smoked sausage to make a whole pound of meat. It went into the fridge and we will check the seasoning before it is taken to school around 4:30 pm. We may need to add a little olive oil. It came out beautiful and tastes pretty good. Instead of boiling the potatoes whole he peeled and then cut them up before boiling. When they were done we drained them and let them cool in a colander over the pot. This seemed easier for him. I think for a change you could add some italian salad dressing and toss though I like it just the way it is. This has happened many times since elementary school that my sons had to make something for school (usually from our family heritage like Irish or English foods. thank you for recipes like this. I also like that it was a childhood favorite. Because we were having hotdogs for dinner my husband cooked these hotdogs and the smoked sausage on the grill at the same time. Besides cooking them in a grill pan you could also cook them in the oven on a broiler pan which I've done before with good results. I would like to see more recipes that are easy to make.

I usually love Giada's stuff, but this recipe is kinda gross. I was interested..with the hotdogs and all...but no. It did not work for me. Yuck.

Ok..I was checking Giada's for a potato salad. This one looked good. Well I was distracted and boiled the potato's too long. Had the hot dogs made already.(fried some onions with the dogs. So I mashed the potatos. Still used the same ingredients, I did chop up one hot italian pepper with the basil to add some zip. Mixed it all together in a bowl with salt , pepper, hot dogs, olive oil. I have to say it was awesome! At the party people were asking...wow, what is this!! I am now making this the next day, mashed for a few more visitors...my Mom and Dad....I know she will be proud. Thanks Giada!!!

It tastes wonderful! However, like others have said, it takes much longer than 10 minutes to cook the potatoes. It's worth the wait though - this is delicious!

I really liked this recipe because it was simple and delicious. The hot dog really adds the saltiness needed in each bite of potato. The only thing about making any potato salad is - peeling the potatoes! That was a little time consuming so if you're making a big batch for a picnic...plan ahead!
