I'm a beginner in making fried donuts and I wanted to share some problems that I encountered with anyone else who is a beginner and wanted to try these donuts despite the intermediate rating like I did. I did not want to give it lower than a 4 as mine did not turn out as good probably due to my lack of experience.
1 I substituted mini chocolate chips for the cinnamon chips as I could not find cinnamon chips and I prefer milk chocolate over white chocolate. The recipe does not state to let the banana mixture cool, so I smashed them after they got out of the oven and then added them to the other ingredients and the chips melted into the batter, so they turned dark brown.
If I were to make these again, I would either use the cinnamon or white chocolate chips so the matter would not turn dark brown upon melting or I would let the banana mixture sit in the fridge for a bit and then fold in the chips so they keep their shape.
2 Definitely invest in the medium cookie scoop if you do not already have one. I used a regular tablespoon and another spoon to place it in the oil and they did not come out round at all.
3 The double boiler is not necessary, I just heated the ingredients in the microwave and it came out fine.
4 I do not have a deep fryer that automatically keeps the temperature so I used a large pot and clipped a cooking thermometer on the side to make sure I was about 350. It shifted a lot so I had to keep adjusting the temperature. It would probably have come out better if I used a fryer that keeps the temperature but that would probably blow the electricity out at my place but I could not. Unfortunately, a lot of mine either became too cooked or not cooked in the middle. Definitely requires more practice.
5 I think next time I attempt to fry a donut I will try an easier recipe where you preshape the donuts so they are shaped in advance and then just watch them till they are brown.

My son and I make these together - he glazes while I fry. These are so lucious and yet so easy! We love the cinnamon chips and banana combination. Warm and glazed...perfect! We decided they were like small fritters and would be wonderful with roasted apples too.

I changed the recipe a bit. Swapped out the cinammon chips for mini white chocolate chips and substituted half and half for the heavy cream. They were great. There is a trick to ensuring the heat is high enough when cooking them to ensure they don't get greasy and cook inside. They were delicious and I'll surely make them again!

I don't love cinnamon too much so I used mini chocolate chips instead and they were delicious. I was out of confectioner's sugar so I just dusted with cinnamon sugar instead of doing the glaze, and I think they were perfect. I wouldn't do the glaze next time even if I had the ingredients!

I thought this would be difficult to make since I don't cook, but it was actually easy. I couldn't find the chips that the receipe called for so I used white chocolate chips and talk about good. I do not eat bananas but even I found them to be delicious.

I was alittle dissapointed when I made this recipe, I followed it to a T. I found them to be oily and I wasn't very fond of the cinnamon chips. It was good but not what I hoped for.

I made these for my family today and they were delicious!
The directions made it an easy recipe to follow.
I couldn't find cinnamon chips anywhere, so made them
without the cinnamon chips-didn't miss them.

These were delicious! I made them with white chocolate chips instead of cinnamon and they worked fine.
