This was the first Good Eats segment I saw on TV, and lo and behold, it dealt with my favorite meal, grilled cheese sandwiches. This is a great variation on a classic.

Tried this after watching the show and now it's the only way I can eat a grilled cheese. Mustard is the secret... Thanks again, Alton!

I've made this sandwich several times. It has simply wrecked the "simple cheese sandwich" for me. The cheddar, black pepper, and mustard blend perfectly. I often have trouble with the the bread sticking to the top pan. Ive found not to heat the pans too much. I usually make the sandwich with a good potato bread.... Ahhh its wonderful.

I jsut moved into my apt and was missing a few cooking essentials, and this episode began a month long quest for this grilled cheese sandwich, it just looked that good.
After many unsuccessful attempts to purchase a cheese grater at K-mart, I finally made this delicous recipe and have made it 3 or 4 times since.
It even prompted me to purchase my Misto olive oil sprayer which I use regularly.
I have only made it with Cracker Barrel sharp cheddar and it was great, i look forward to trying new cheeses and other toppings (tomato, ham, bacon, etc.
I highly recommend.
