This pie does take some time to make, but it's so worth it!! It's apple pie in its purest form. Not overly sweet, like some pies can be, so you can get the true taste of the apples. I will no longer make any other apple pie but this one. It's a winner!!

This was absolutely the greatest apple pie I have ever tasted!! My husband is not a big fan of apple pie and he LOVED it!! within about 3 hours of the first cut it was completely gone!! I followed the recipe to the letter and OMG it was worth all of the work!!! I have waited 3 years to make this pie simply because the ingredients were so hard to hard to find! It was sooo worth the wait!!! Thank you AB! You Rock!!!!

This will be the 5th or 6th we have made this pie. My family loves this recipe. The crust is delicious and the Applejack really adds to it. I found the tapioca in the jello/pudding section of our grocery store (Publix, and the Grains of Paradise (no pepper taste once in the pie at Whole Foods. I searched multiple stores because WF is a bit of a drive. This is the first pie I have ever made and it has turned out great every time!

I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a big hit. So I am making it again for Christmas. I did have to tweek a few ingredients since I couldn't find them at my grocery store. I think this is going to be my new go to dessert. I first saw this recipe on the show and suggest watching the video to make your life easier!!!

I am not known for baking(other than bread. Ask anyone and they will tell you I am at the grill or smoker with something good on the grates. I saw this episode though and had to try it. The results were outstanding! Best Apple Pie we have ever had. No one could believe it was homemade (or at least by me. Tried with both the Apple Jack and Apple Pie liquor, great results both ways. Couldn't find a pie bird, but the foil imitation I made worked well.

Tried this for Thanksgiving and it was a good pie. "Sweating" the apples and minimal sugar intrigued me. I went to a local "Cook's Station" store & got the bird for $4 and RIGHT next to it happen to be a 2 in' quich pan for $22. Skipped the grains b/c knew kids wouldn't go for it. Found tapico flour for $2 @ whole foods. Presentation was great--will skip brushing the juice on top as it did "over brown" the crust. Also used Aida's crust recipe. Next ime will use more apples (I used 9 and more spice (maybe grains. Beautiful pie though.

This is the best apple pie I have ever tasted. The grains of paradise give it an atypical, yet delectable flavor. (Not spicy, so worry not ThompsonD

I've made it two ways, one with the crust made with only butter and one according to the recipe with both butter and shortening. The prior was fine, but the latter was flakier and better in general.

The second time around, I went through the trouble of tracking down the tart pan that Alton used, and it was worth it, although I found it took 1-2 more apples to fill it up than the recipe calls for. The pie bird also seemed to help the filling turn out great.
