This recipe base is absolutely delicious. I omitted the coconut ,the slivered almonds and the butter. In place of the butter, I put 3/4 cup peanut butter. I let it cool, cut it into bars, wrapped it in saran wrap, and my kids took it to school. They were an absolute HIT!!!

This is HANDS DOWN, THE BEST granola bar recipe ever!!! Well, almost... I made it better with my own additions/substractions, but as it is it is a perfect base!
All I do is make my own easy granola and then add it to the syrup concoction, mix it up, then press it down in a pan and put it in the refrigerator.
I also substitute some of the sugary mix with BROWN RICE SYRUP because it is not near as sweet and I toss in a pinch of salt.
I add ground flax seed (fresh and millet when mixing the granola and syrup together.
I have tried this the way I just mentioned as my base and then with cranberries and pecans for one batch, another with some peanut butter (my favorite and another with chocolate chips which I found works better if you freeze the chips first and then add them after mixing the granola and syrup together so they're already cooling down. LOVE THIS RECIPE!!!!!! Thank you!

I used dark brown sugar instead of the light and increased the butter by a halk stick. I also made mine with glazed walnuts, toasted almonds and coconut, dried berries, and macadamia nuts with the granola. It was FABULOUS! I tried it the original way the first time (no chocolate and it was good too. But by using the extra nuts it seems to be a great way to fill you up with healthy oils and fats instead of one of those "health meal bars". One 4x2 bar keeps me energized and satisfied.. MUST TRY!

I use my own granola and this is awesome. It's better than Emeril's peanut butter granola bars, sorry Emeril...

This receipe is very good, I like it better with white sugar, and used a receipe in a cookbook to make up my own granola to go in these bars. If you have the time this is a great way to make up your own granola bars,,,,, Dolores

I made these today and they were very good. I used macademias instead of almonds and used rice crispy cereal instead of rasins. YUM IN THE TUM.

This was so easy to make. I did make a few changes to the recipe, which made it better for me. I used dried figs instead of raisins and omitted the coconut. It turned out very well.
