8 servings

  • 1 teaspoon salt, plus 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 3 cups green beans, ends cut
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan

In a medium sauce pot, bring water to a boil and add 1 teaspoon salt. Add green beans and blanch for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from water and immediately place in an ice water bath.

In a medium bowl, mix all dry ingredients, including the 2 teaspoons sea salt, thoroughly. Toss green beans in mixture. In a large saute pan, add oil and heat to almost smoking. Add green beans and cook until spices begin to blacken, approximately 2 minutes. When done, add butter, toss, place on plate, and garnish with Parmesan.

This was just plain lousy and a total waste of beautiful green beans from the farmer's market.
These are SOOOO good and addicting! I made these tonight and told my husband he better hurry home before their all gone! I'm gonna try this blackening seasoning on other things as well. VERY GOOD
    Huge hit! Everyone loved it.
I made them last year for thanksgiving. everyone loved them. i didnt even get a chance to eat more than 2 myself. so that being said, they'd all asked me to do them again this year. and so i will. delish!
Very Good! I lightened up on the Cayenne so it still has heat but not overwhelming the other flavors. Seriously better than french fries. YUM.
This was really good. You mix up a batch of this spice combination. You do not use it all at once. I added a bit more salt to my batch. It was wonderful!!!
I think they were good, but way too much in the spice department. Next time I make them I will either use more green beans or make less of the spice mixture. My husband liked them so I will make them again!
This dish was awesome!!! The comments about being overseasoned and too salty have some merit, but overall, everyone enjoyed these beans at our house.
I wanted to love this dish. Way too much seasoning for 3 cups of beans. The spice was overpowering and I love blackening spices. I didn't watch the video until after I made them and I agree with other comments, that Guy's dish had way less spices on his beans. I might try it again, but use about 1/4 of the spices.
I loved these beans right away, however, my husband at first said "you don't need to make these again" by the time dinner was over he had changed his mind . He said " these are addictive, I can't stop eating them." I definitely will be making these many more times. Thx Guy
this was the best recipe I have ever including green beans. the seasoning used a was perfect mixture of flavor for a eventful meal.
The whole family loved this I keep a baggy full to use on all kinds of beans not just greeen beans!
Double Yum! My 16 year old hates vegetables and always has. I almost fell over when she said "these beans are great" and asked for more. The best beans ever! The spice combo is great I cant wait to use it again.
I tried this recipe today but found it a little too salty. Since salt is included already in many spices, next time I will leave out the sea salt. I did eat it all anyways!
This is my absolute favorite recipe for green beans! I have made it 3 or 4 times in the past month and I am definitely not sick of it! The combination of spices go so well together.. & yes you need to have a taste for spicy food to enjoy it..
GREAT!!! If you like, blacken, spicy tons of flavor, this is for you. If you have more of a bland plain taste(not that that is bad), dont try it.
I will use the spice and try it on roasted corn and other veggies.
i loved these, and i'm not a fan of green beans in general. the spice mix is tasty, and the recipe makes plenty of it, so there is lots left over for other uses. it's great as a steak rub.
These beans were to spices and to much spice for 3 cups green beans. I was very disappointed and will not make these again.
After reading the reviews, I was super excited to make these. I love spicy, and I love green beans, but it just did not work for me. They weren't terrible, but they weren't great either. I won't be making these again.
The mixture of spices in this dish are perfect. It was quick and easy and best of all gave a new kick to a basic side dish
I have eaten so many green beans in my life and this recipe gets me back in the mood to eat them. Full-proof and great flavor!
It was easy and tastes great!!
What a great change of pace this recipe is. If you are hesitating in any way rethink trying this. What a great way to make green beans go to a whole different level. Thanks Guy!
I made these the other night and we could not get enough!! The spices are just right if you like spicy. Personally, I love spicy so it was perfect! I would have cooked the beans a little more than 3 minutes at first though, but only by another minute or so. They were al dente, but a little too al dente. Didn't matter though, we still ate them all up!! A must make recipe here!!
I had green beans like these at a restaurant outside Woodstock NY and they were great! This recipe equals that taste. They go great as an appetizer too with a hot dipping mustard.
Oh my goodness! My daughter made this receipe for a work function and saved some for me. I asked for seconds! This will be the only way I make green beans from now on! Way to go Guy! You rock!
I'm admittedly not a huge veggie fan, but these were very nice. I unfortunately did not have any chili powder, but it still tasted great. I will definately be making these again.
These are the best green beans ever!!!! The spices are just right. Even my younger kids loved them. Will definitly keep making them!!!
I love these! It's a great recipe if you are bored with plain vegetables. I recommend sticking to the recipe though; One time, i didnt have a few ingredients and I decided to add curry powder. That made the green beans way to spicy!
Like some other reviewers, I found these too spicy and salty when I used the amount of spices in the recipe. Check the ingredients in your chili powder; if it already has salt in it, cut way back on the added salt. Next time I'll cut back on the cayenne too.

I also made them healthier by cutting out the butter at the end. There was enough olive oil still on the beans for the Parmesan cheese to stick.
