I thought this was delicious, excellent recipe. I followed the directions except I chopped my onions before cookong. I only cooked the onions for the time called for so they would not be to sweet. I think if you overcook the onions it may change the flavor.
Thanks Guy for sharing.

Took MUCH longer to properly caramelize the onions than the recipe suggested. You can scorch the onions in the time given but not caramelize them. Low and slow is the name of the game when you caramelize onions. Definitely worth the time it took.

I LOVE the dip but am very disappointed that there was no recipe for the toast slices around the bowl in the original picture. How are they made? They look absolutely wonderful!

I made this today it was not worth all the time it took to caramelize the onions and shallots (40 minutes. Not as much flavor as I expected.

I love it! Family has requested it many times. Will never make the dry onion soup mix & sour cream again.

liked it/didn't love it and honestly not quite sure why or what I would change. Have plenty of other dips I love so this one won't make it back into the rotation

This dip is so good!! I don't know why I never thought of this. I used light sour cream and light mayo instead of regular and it was great! Would definitely recommend for a party or a late night snack.
