Simple, delicious with real ingredients. I made no adjustments other than to put all the ingredients into the food processor and pulse about 4 times. Much simpler than dicing stringy carmelized onions.

I presented it as a dip for crudites.

I made this for my hubby's B-day and all I can say is WOW! I really never cared for French onion dip but now I can't stay out of it. No more store bought for us!! Holy smokes this is good. I did used fat free mayo because that is what I had on hand but you will never miss the regular mayo this dip had great flavor! Thanks Guy!

I found this dip to be excellent and packed wiith onion flavor, and I am a real fan on onion dip. In the past, I have always had the simple dry soup and sour cream dip, and this is better. The question is, is this one of those times when the increase in flavor is worth the extra effort of chopping and caramelizing all of those onions, shallots, and garlic. Perhaps it is, I haven't had the other one for a long time. And yes, this is definitely better after chilling for a few hours.

I decided to make this on a whim - it turned out pretty good! Instead of chopping up the onions (a bit time consuming, I'm going to try next time to combine the whole onion rings with the sour cream mixture in the food processor. Also, I added about a 1/2 c. extra sour cream and it tasted much creamier. It tasted better the next day - so I really recommend letting it sit in the refrigerator overnight instead of just an hour!
