LOVE IT !!!! DELICIOUS!!!! My husband made this after seeing Triple D and I about made myself sick eating too much of it. After reading the reviews, I want to try it with the cottage cheese and homemade dumplings next time. And for the nay-sayers and those who cry that it's non-traditional, everyone makes a dish their own way. We live in a largely Hispanic area and they fight amongst themselves big time over how to do something like enchiladas or tamales the "REAL traditional" way. So try it and you will LOVE it!

I am going to try this one when the weather gets colder. It looks delicious. Why all
the moaning over "it's not authentic". If we never experimented, we would still be eating
dinosaur bone soup.

Although, the recipe does sound delicious (I can't think of many things with bacon that aren't it is not completely traditional. I would love for people to try a more traditional version of this dish which is not just called halushki, but also halushka, shakenza, etc. It is made with homemade noodle/ dumplings that are amazing! Imagine if gnocchi and spaetzle had a baby...my mouth is watering! The recipe will vary a little bit depending on what country it comes from. It is not only a Ukrainian dish, but also Polish, Hungarian, and well, what my family is; Gypsy. The Roma (Gypsies as well as many people of similar background are known for the peasant style meals that are rich and filling.
Real bacon, butter, and a slim diet for the rest of the week are a must. As odd as it sounds, the my family actually would top it off with a little scoop of cottage cheese. Not sure where that originated but I won't eat it any other way.
Let me know if you would like the recipe.

I loved this dish, very different, but so good. To the lady who said shame on you Guy for saying this is Holy Haluski, when she said it wasn't, very childish. For all of us who have watch Guy since he won on Next Food Chef, knows that Guy always put's his own spin on dishes, and so to the lady that made that comment, next time get another chef that may make it the way you know it as, but to put Guy down on his dishes is ridiculous. That is what makes Guy's food great, his own touch. He is one of the most popular chefs on the Food channel, so that ought to say something about him and his cooking. Love you Guy, keep up the great work

I could'nt find pancetta, so I used bacon instead. My mother loved it. She would have liked more bacon though. I will order pancetta online next time and let you all know how it came out.

I grew up on Haluski(my father was born there and I have to tell you this recipe is way off from the traditional Ukrainian dish. First of all you never add carrots to this dish. Haluski is a peasant dish and all of my ancestors including all the traditional recipes call for sauteed cabbage, sauted omions, sauted rinsed saurkraut in unsalted butter served over either freshly cooked bowties or wide egg noodles with fresh ground pepper, salt and some dill weed. That's it. This recipe should not be called haluski it should be called something else.
Shame on you Guy Fieri. My grandmother is rolling around in her grave. I think I will post the REAL recipe.

Very good - the flavors are all over. I decided to use only 1 tablespoon of garlic instead of 3 and it tastes great. In also cut the pepper down to 1 tablespoon due to previous comments and that works too. This dish is going to a super bowl party - - I will comment later on how this dish fared.
