I grew up around Pittsburgh and I like Guy's spin on this simple dish. The added Pancetta was great. Overall simple to make and when all of the kids eat something different I say it's a keeper.

I saw this recipe on the Today show and decided to give it a try. I used bacon instead. I also added a pinch of red pepper flakes just to spice it up. This was SO tasty. I really liked the different flavors of buttery, bacony and the vegetables. Definatly, a comfort type food. Very good.

This is not traditional Haluski. I get that. But with that said this dish is a great idea for someone who wants to do something different with cabage. Guy is genius to add tha pancetta. It makes this dish! Sometimes I like traditional style. Honor the heritige. But sometimes its nice to put it up a notch. The only problem I had was that it seemed like the onions overpowered the cabage. I didn't add the capers although I wish I did. ( When you order pancetta at the deli. Remind them to make sure there is no platic wrapping before they slice.

Haluski can be made with either dumplings or noodles and both ways are excellent. Guy put his spin on it with carrots and capers.. Deal with it or don't make the recipe.

True Haluski does not have carrots nor capers in it. And is made with Potato Dumplings, not egg noodles.

WOW... great recipe.
I made some minor changes:
Slab bacon vs. Panchetta
Wheat vs. Egg Noodles
added 1 pound browned Kielbasa ? inch coin sliced and quartered!

Excellent recipe. The meld of flavors is just tremendous. Only thing is the listed cook time of 12 minutes. More like 36 minutes. So prep and cook comes in at about an hour.

I was intrigued as soon as I saw this recipe in my Food network magazine and had to try it. It's very good, surprisingly so, since there's no real sauce to speak of. I used whole wheat noodles, and that was the only change I made. My husband and I both really enjoyed it. It does make a lot, so next time I'll cut the recipe in half. I will be making it again.
