I grew up in RI and have eaten more than my fair share of Hot Wieners! Personally, I LOVED this recipe! The smell while it was cooking had me concerned, but when it was married up with the mustard, onions, and celery salt, it was fantastic! I added a bit more water and let it simmer for an hour instead of 30 minutes. I also griddled the franks (can't get wieners in NC and hotdogs are too thick instead of boiling them and I put the mustard on top of the frank, not on top of the onions! Thanks for the recipe, Guy. This is as close as I can ever imagine getting to the real deal from RI. Nice job!

I've made this recipe several times and like it very much. It's not what I was expecting but that's why I like it! I agree with several others about the allspice and cinnamon. I cut those spices in half. I also add a small amount of brown sugar in mine and increase the heat with more chili powder. I prefer 93% lean ground beef as I don't like the excessive grease if made like the recipe calls for. Again, I really like this chili and look forward to trying the real deal when I get to Rhode Island.

Tried this and wasted my ingredients and time. Cinnamon in this????? On purpose????? It smells bad and tastes worse.

Rhode Island born and Rhode Island bred ... and this is THE recipe for wiener topping. Left Little Rhody years ago and tried all the recipes I could find for NY Wieners, but this one is the best. Granted, I can't get wieners, nor the correct buns ... when you can't have the real thing, this is the next best!

This just didn't do it for me. I was expecting a Coney Island chili sauce type flavor but this was not it. I think the cinnamon and allspice overpowered it. I've found a similar recipe on the internet that is much better. That recipe also suggests putting your cooked ground beef in a food processor and pulsing it a couple of time. It creates a much more authentic texture to the chili sauce.

This is a great recipe! I usually add a little garlic salt and more chili powder, but it's fantastic on a dog. The leftover meat is re-purposes well for chili or tacos as well!

    EXCELLENT Recipe!

For the people that gave this poor reviews they obviously haven't had a RI hot wiener (Onlyville
The only adjustments I made was take out the cinnamon, curry and allspice all together. I also added a little more chilli powder and doubled the margarine.
I used the kayem natural franks.
Just as good, if not better than Olnyville!

This was horrible. I love all of the spices used in this recipe so I don't know what made it so bad. It smelled really good until I added the cinnamon. I even added salt, a bit of sugar, garlic salt to try to salvage this. Using this much hamburger (even though I halved the recipe we will just have to stomach it so we don't waste it. Will not be making this again.
