I'm just learning how to cook (at age 60 and tried this recipe. They turned out fantastic and my husband told me not to change anything I did. I'm not much of a fan of spicy food so I did change the 1 1/2 tsp red chili flakes to 1/2 tsp red chili powder and that worked well. Also, it's hard to find Hoagie rolls where I live so I used French rolls without any problem. These turned out so good that I made up a batch of the meatball mix and put it in the freezer to serve to my out of state visitors next week. I'm even thinking of using them in my spaghetti. If anyone has tried this let me know how that worked. Thanks Guy for a great recipe. Do try this. Your family will love it.

These are the BEST! I'm throwing away all of my other recipes! I loved the great basic sauce recipe too, but added my usual preferences -- two tablespoons red wine, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ground clove and a pinch of cayenne. All-in-all, this is probably Guy's best recipe!

I watched the episode on Friday and thought that my hubby would like these. I invited his sister and her husband for dinner. OH MY they were great. I made the sauce earlier and then the meatballs later. I used a mild Italian sausage. I read a post about the sauce turning pink while it was blended. However, I just did a quick pulse in my blender and had no issues. The sauce was good, but I think any tomatoes would work as well.
I can see why Hunter would love these. I don't even like meatballs and these were good enough to plan a batch for the freezer. I am a converted meatball lover. Thanks Guy, you gave the home cook another fantastic meal

The basic meatball recipe is good--moist and flavorful. A little too much heat for our taste, so only 1 tsp of red chili flakes for us the next time. We like our meatballs to taste beefy, so used a combination of 80/20 beef, veal, and a small amount of pork. No sausage--didn't want sausage subs.
The basic sauce recipe is fine can can be found anywhere. We blenderized the sauce as suggested. BIG mistake. Sauce turned pink from air getting whipped in. This is where I get the feeling that Guy sometimes makes suggestions without actually trying them out. Our sauce tasted great, but the color really put us off.

These are the best meatballs! We could die for them!! I used tomatoes from my garden for the marinara sauce and my husband and kids want them every week! Oh, so good!

5 stars all the way. My husband loved it and asked if we could have this every week. The sauce is great and makes you think, 'why ever buy another jar' when you can make this yourself, simple and GOOD.

After watching this episode I thought if Hunter likes it let's try it. Absolutely fabulous. Moist meatballs with just a light kick of heat. The sauce was very tasty, however, I used a jar of my canned tomato marinara sauce. Will continue to make these. My husband loved also loved them.
