YUM YUM YUM! This was so good! I am not El Salvadorean so I have never had the traditional Pupusa but I am pretty sure that was not what he was trying to accomplish here. No where in the title of the recipe does it say TRADITIONAL pupusas. He created this for tailgating and it is perfect for that! I made it for the big game and ended up needing to make a second batch! I personally put corn in mine because it gave the recipes a smal sweet element. This was a perfect recipe to eat as a quick delicious bite watching the game! It really wasn't messy either! THANKS GUY!

Born and raised in El Salvador, this recipe is an insult to our famous pupusas. I may not be a cook but I know what a good pupusa is. Avocado in a pupusa??? We invite you to visit El Salvador and learn all about the great food my country has to offer.

This sounds like a reasonable recipe. I am going to try with local masa from a tortilleria. However, I am going to use leftover short ribs as my stuffing. Probably saute onions, serranos and corn or potatoes with the meat to make my stuffing.

This recipe is so good and easy. It may not be traditional Salvadorean pupusas but they are good. In the past, when I tried making them with a single ball of masa, all I made was a big mess. The two balls of masa made the stuffing process a lot easier. I loved the bold flavors. They came out so good. My son had me make an extra batch to take back to college with him. His roommates had a feast. Thank you Guy!!!!

This is a much more bold and complicated variation of what pupusas traditionally are. Pupusas in El Salvador only contain masa, water, (oil to cook the pupusa in, and inside, a variation of the following: A. cheese, B. cheese w/ loroco (hard to find in the US, C. small salvadoran fried red beans & pork and/or rice ("revueltas" which means "mixed".
I would recommend looking up videos of how to shape pupusas as they are usually made from one single ball of masa, not two. A thicker section of corn on both sides might overwhelm the taste of the stuffings and lead to a bland pupusa. This might be why his recipe uses such bold ingredients.
