My husband and I loved this. For those saying it is messy. Yes it is. If you don't like making cut-out sugar cookies, homemade yeast bread or rolls then you won't like making htis recipe because of having to clean up the flour. I make homemade cut-out sugar cookies, homemade yeast bread and rolls and homemade noodles. So I have no problem with the mess. You do need to be a bit liberal with the flour when you put it on the counter and gently knead untill dough is no longer sticky.

I love spaetzle and this recipe is superb! I did not use a colander and found that I needed to be very, very liberal with the flour, just as he was in the show, or it doesn't work, it just sticks. You need to put the noodles into the pot immediately after cutting them! And try to cut them thin! 1/4" max! Also, I think this is enough to serve more like 6 or 8...it is very delicious, rich and filling!! We've found that it's even better the second day, and delicious cold too!

I made this the way Guy did on his show without a colllander or spaetzle maker. It was a mess, but lots of fun with the kids -- they even ate it!!! I can't wait to make again....all the recipes from this episode rocked!

I love spaetzle....what else as I am German. Just use a spaetzle maker and you can choose to make them small and thick or long and thin just slice fast or slow. You don't need to roll the dough/batter and it's less messy.
You can get the spaetzle maker for already $ 6 on the internet and it's so easy and fun for kids to make them.

I made this recipe last night (my first ever attempt at making spaetzle, and although it was a hit, the "dough" is actually a batter. Unless you work a lot quicker than I do, and have the reflexes of a ninja master, it's pretty hard to roll and cut batter. I finally gave up the rolling, made another batch and tried with the colander method. Eureka! It worked well, and it made quite the impression around the table. I grew up in Germany, and continue to travel though there, and this was as good as any I've had before. Thanks, Guy.

Guy does it again! I have made this recipe twice now, once making the full recipe from scratch, and once substituting pasta for the spaetzle (I was running short of time, but we loved it so much the first time that I had to try it. It was just as big of a hit both times! Just cook the pasta according to package directions, but boil it in half water, half chicken broth. Then follow the recipe directions starting at the point of melting the butter in a medium saute pan. Delicious!

    Thanks again, Guy!

We saw Guy make this this morning. The spaetzle was great. It was my first try at making spaetzle. Next time I will use a colander to drop the spaetzle in hot chicken stock. It is very good. My family loved it.
