This was a great disappointment! What went wrong with this recipe by Guy, who usualy has so much flavor in his recipes. The meat had absolutely no flavor and the dressing was unbelievably sour. I used only 1 T of Mexican Oregano after reading comments.3 would have been overwhelming.I worked with the meat and dressing until we could enjoy it and not feel we had wasted time and mony.I will just stick to a good old Tacco salad and not waste my time with this again.

We love Guy's show and eat a lot of salads, so I've been meaning to try this one for quite awhile. Finally got around to it tonight. After reading the reviews complaining about the overuse of oregano, I completely left it out of the dressing and added some ground red chili peppers instead. I didn't cool the flank steak either -- just let it rest. I didn't make any other real changes. We really enjoyed it. It's a nice change from the usual.

I saw this recipe on an episode of Guy's Big Bite and ran to the store to buy the ingredients and made it that night. My husband simply loved it. I later made it for an office party and people seemed to really enjoy it. I found it to be extremely easy to make and the dish tastes great. Additionally, you can keep the leftovers in the fridge and serve it over fresh salad the next day or wrap it in a tortilla and it is great as a wrap as well. I have never used the broth for anything else, mainly due to a lack of time, but it tastes very good and makes great beef stock. I’m not sure why people think it’s boring or tastes like “cold pot roast.” Mine was seasoned very differently. I used less oil in the dressing as suggested, and I think people should make modifications as necessary as people’s tastes are different. But as a dish, this is one of the returning champs on our menu!

The slow simmering of this beef dish made my whole house smell for days! The beef also turned out very stringy, rather than 'fork tender'. My husband & I ate it, but it wasn't very enjoyable & I won't be making it again. For the amount of cooking time it takes, I'd expect it to be delicious, but it's not.

I didn't use as much oregano, but everything else was the same. The WHOLE family loved it(minus the radishes I have a very picky 3 yo, 5 yo, and 7 yo eaters, but they loved the shredded steak and the vinaigrette was delicious. I am sure this would be great with chicken using chicken broth too. YUMM~!!!!!!!

I love Guys' recipes but this one bummed me out. It sounded and looked so good on the episode so I decided to make it. Like the other reviews the meat just tasted like cold pot roast to me. The dressing was awful! I didn't even put it on the salad. We crushed chips on top and had ranch and salsa which made it edible but I won't be wasting my money on flank steak again (for this salad.

Although it may not be fair for me to judge on the exact salad because I didn't have any flank steak at the time so I substituted boneless chicken. I still used the same dry rub and just boiled it in the same mixture but used chicken broth instead of beef broth, just until it was done, then shredded it. Since I only used a small piece of chicken, I added some "mexicorn" and black beans, rinsed and drained. It was delicous. The viniagrette recipe was great. It looked a little funny in color so I was abrehensive but it worked perfectly with this salad.
The next day, I used the leftovers (tossed in the viniagrette, minus the lettuce, heated it up and put it in soft tortillas with a little bit of pepper jack cheese. They were great also! Another great Guy recipe!

As a loyal Food Network fan I have made many receipes this was by far the worst. I agree with the review that it taste like a pot roast. However if you want a pot roast you would have it with a nice ginger-snap gravy my mother-in-laws is 10x better. This does not belong with a salad. If you have a salt problem stay away its very salty. A flank steak cooked medium-rare on a barbecue would have been much better on the salad.

I followed all the directions and while the flank steak was decent, it pretty much just tasted like pot roast. The broth was good but the meat, boring. Then I did the salad and the dressing started off interesting, but quickly became not to my liking. I did not enjoy this overall at all and will never make it again. But, if you REALLY like oregano and limes, this may be the recipe for you.
