I have made this every year for Thanksgiving since it aired on foodnetwork. It's amazing and I never have leftovers of this dish.

This is my go-to green bean casserole recipe. I have been asked to make it every Thanksgiving.

I increase the bacon to a half pound or so and have substituted fresh green beans for frozen, just depends on what is in stock at our local grocery. I salt and pepper to taste. I also use whatever mushrooms are in stock at our local grocery, the oyster that the recipe calls for are my favorite, but I have often just used only shittake or button. My husband is in charge of frying the onions for the topping every year and we often let them soak longer in the buttermilk then the 10 minutes the recipe calls for. We have also not used shallots for this part and only used mayan or vidalia.

It turns out great every time & everyone loves it! We use a lot of Guy's recipes in our house.

I made this for Thanksgiving and it was such a big hit. I especially loved the freshness of the fried onions and shallots. That wowed everyone. This is a keeper. Well worth it

This recipe is totally worth the time it takes, especially if making for a special occasion. Many steps can be completed ahead of time. Also, using canned french fried onions saves you from having to fry your own, although they are truly delicious. I will never make green bean casserole from a soup can again. However, my brother who LOVES green bean casserole from the can was not a fan of this. He is a "picky" eater. Other people also told me it contained too much pepper, although I did not think so.

Guy you are an AWESOME Chef! I made this for my family this year, and even my two year old ate it! It was DeeeLISH! This is a MUST try recipe for anyone who hasn't tried it yet and wants something different than the traditional green bean cassarole. This will now be our traditional cassarole! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!

This was an awesome dish. I decided to try it out before Thanksgiving and have now decided to make this a part of our Thanksgiving menu.

This recipe is a MUST. I made this for Thanksgiving and it was demanded that I make it again for Christmas dinner. It was time consuming, but absolutely worth it.

This recipe was a hit! I'll be making The Mean Green from now on instead of additive filled "green bean casserole". More work but sooo worth it.

Thanks Guy!!!! I spent 4 days making Thanksgiving for almost 20 people. No way was I going to serve that mushy soup, canned bean mush. Well worth the extra effort. Had my sister fry up the onion rings while I got the birds out to rest. I will make this every year now! Mmmmmmm
