I used butternut squash instead of the sweet potatoes. It tasted like guilt free pecan pie.

Best sweet potato dish EVER! I had to substitute 1/2 honey and 1/2 maple syrup for the agave because we don't have that in our local grocery store. Perfect!

I made this recipe for Thanksgiving and it turned out OK, not great. I ended up putting all the ingredients into the kitchen aid and mashing it, adding cream and butter. Following the recipe, the end product seemed dry and the apples didnt incorporate with the potatoes nicely. I felt the cinnimon was overpowering. I dont think I would make this recipe again.

I've made this twice now, once for Thanksgiving and once for Christmas. I have a hard time getting seeds out and had no patiences alternating them this time so the second time I sliced then chopped the apples and layered the dish. I buttered, then laid the apples down, then the sliced sweet potaotes, then the sauce, then sweet taters, then the apples, then finished the top with the sauce - my mom said it was beautiful and everyone else raved about it. They all have asked for the recipe! :

Absolutely worth every calorie. I even used butter (which I can't stand the smell or taste of normally and it turned our great. The sauce has the most amazing aroma - it would be great itself over ice cream. The whiskey, which I don't drink on it's own, adds the right balance to the sugar. A definite keeper.

Excellent recipe!! Only thing I would change would be to chop the pecans instead of leaving whole. Maple syrup worked in place of the agave syrup (which I didn't have. Overall great recipe! Would definately make again.

I went to the store to buy a rump roast and sweet potatoes were on sale so I got 3 large ones. While they were baking, I decided to look for a new sauce for them. I did change it some.
1-I didn't have any apples or pecans so I skipped.
2-I don't like nutmeg so I used ground cloves.
3-No agave so I used Karo dark and some brown sugar.
4-Didn't bake the second time-I threw them in the pot that I made the sauce in and let it simmer until the roast got done.
I know I changed the original a lot but it was really good!

This recipe's a good starting point, the dish turned out pretty good. I substituted rum for the whiskey. One change I would definitely make next time I make the dish is to use way LESS agave than is called for in this recipe or even skip it completely. I also thought the cooking time was too long, I'll try something closer to an hour total cooking time next time. I also used chipotle instead of cayenne since that's what I had available and it was really tasty!

This was a great holiday dish. Everyone loved it. I added a little more agave and some brown sugar on top. Even people that don't like sweet potatoes couldn't get enough.

Made this dish for Thanksgiving and it has been added to the list of
must haves for Thanksgiving. I used Granny Smith apples and added some garlic.
