this is a chocolate lover dream cake. i made it for my husbands birthday and he loved it. it couldve came out better but i didnt have a candy thermomiter. so my buttercream didnt come out smooth since you could still feel the granules of sugar. other than that it was great. the recipe is great as long as you have a candy thermomiter because if the frosting isnt just so then the cake doesnt have the same affect. also wish the cake itself was a little moister. it takes a lot of time so be prepared. i loved the mousse though!

what kind of dark chocolate are they talking about. Is it an unsweetened bakers chocolate or more like a dark chocolate candy bar? Could I use instead chocolate chips?

This cake is probably the best chocolate cake I've ever done. I am not a choclate lover. However two of my closest friends are. I made this cake first as a Christmas present for one of them and this week I made it again for a birthday party. It is tedious and labor intensive, but it is WORTH all of it. Be prepared to spend hours the first time you make it because of the assembly requirements. However it is well worth all of the effort that it takes.

This recipe was perfect. Im a culinary arts student, so I've had my fair share of chocolate mousse cakes, but I'd have to say that this cake was one of the best. Keyword: WAS, because it's already gone. And is PERFECT for the

Although it took a very long time to prep all the different layers of chocolate, I managed to produce a beautiful and delicious cake that everyone loved! The directions were perfect and easy to follow...of course for someone who has a little experience baking. Only problem was that the ganache, buttercream, and mousse yielded way too much for the one little cake recipe.....was able to make 3 other cakes. Well worth the time to make.

Everyone absolutely loved this recipe, and the ganache drizzled over the top was absolutely beautiful! Very elegant dessert, albeit time-consuming.
I cut the recipe by two-thirds (which was very simple to do and made it into two 9-inch layers instead of three 10-inch ones. I made all of the ganache and frosting, however, and I had lots of frosting left over but used most of the ganache. I followed others' advice and omitted half of the butter in the frosting, and even still it was very buttery and rich.

This was not easy because there were so many recipes going on at the same time, but with help it would work a lot smoother. I made it for my graduation party and everyone LOVED it.

I made this as a birthday cake and struggled greatly. I made the cake twice, the first time cooking it 10 minutes longer than the recipe said, the second time cooking it 25 minutes longer than the recipe said to get a cake that wasnt raw in the center. It finally came out very dense.
The mousse was excellant and easy to make. The ganache was runny and unlike any ganache I have ever made.
The mousse did not hold up between the cake layers and I ended up putting it in a trifle dish and calling it chocolate calamity cake. However, it was still thoroughly enjoyable - especially with a bit of Kahlua soaked into the cake!
