Wow! This soup is every bit of yummy! As soon as I added the tomato paste and it started to roast in my pot, I knew this was going to be phenomenal! Easy and not expensive to make means this is going into my dinner rotation!!! Thanks Rick for a great recipe!

Worth the rave reviews. Cheese, bacon and tomatoes are an excellent mix -- in case you couldn't have guessed. Easy to make too. A winner all around!

This soup was delicious!!! I added 1/4 tsp crushed red chili flakes to give it a little kick and it was perfect. I made the soup day ahead to make it easy for my family to enjoy a hot meal quickly the night before Thanksgiving...everyone wants the recipe! The only way this could have been better is if you take the time to roast the tomatoes yourself.

We watched this on the Foodnetwork last night and it looked delicious. We got the recipe and made it the next day for supper and it was an absolute hit. The soup is very thick and flavorful. The recommended cheese is perfect. By themselves, the soup and the grilled cheese are very good. Dip the sandwich in the soup and it goes to the next level.

We will definitely make this again, next time for company. Get more of Rick Massa's recipe's on here!

I made this a week ago and am already planning on making the soup again tonight. For me, the soup was so amazing, and very very easy to prepare. I'll never eat canned tomato soup again! The sandwiches I thought were good, but next time I won't go to the trouble to make the parmesan/mustard/butter for the outside. It didn't seem to do much for me, but I do like the combo of mustard/bacon/cheese on the inside! I used turkey bacon for both, and it was all delish! Thanks for this outstanding recipe!

Both of these were wonderful. I made this for company and we were all very happy people! The bread really made the sandwich. I got my Shepards bread at Trader Joe's and it was perfectly thin, a great crisp on it after cooked. The inside was creamy, just divine. Anything with bacon has to be good right!? I did enjoy the soup and the minimal effort involved. I think I still am leaning towards the roasted tomato soup from Tyler Florence on this same site. Thanks for the recipes, let me know when you make your own cookbook!

I doubled the soup recipe, but it was really good!

Didn't make the sandwich yet. Made the soup the day after I saw it on Food Network. It was fast and easy - and it was good, just not as great as I expected it to be. I couldn't find any apple wood smoked bacon either, and also used the hickory smoked as someone else noted. I would like to try it with the applewood to see if/how it might change the flavor - but not sure what store might carry it. If you're making this for company, you will need to at least double the recipe. It is something I will make again.

Both the soup & the sandwich are to die for, I have now made the sandwich 3 times and am still amazed at the super flavor. And really super fast & easy, too! Rick really hit a homerun on these recipes, and I'm really glad he won that competition! Congrats!!

Ok, so we cheated... We actually had the pleasure of having Chef Rick make the meal for us - HOLY MOLY - what a delicious combo!!!! Grilled cheese never tasted like THAT before! SOOOOOOOOO flavorful and rich!! MMMMMMM.... And the tomato soup was smooth and flavorful - the basil gives it a real freshness.
I HIGHLY recommend that everyone try these recipes - not because I am biased, but because they were KICK BUTT delicious! (BTW - one can never get enough bacon!
