Mine didn't look like the picture either. Maybe it's because I used a white paper bag instead of a brown one.

I also first heard this recipe from Alton Brown, but he said to add 2 tbs of oil to the bag (I use olive because it's a "healthy" oil, and most of it sticks to the bag and add in the salt (I like Lawry's seasoning salt personally before it's popped because then the salt sticks to the popcorn without butter etc afterwards. And yes, watch it carefully because it can burn quickly. We LOVE homemade microwave popcorn. I give the ingredients to people as a gift and they think it's so neat!

I'm so excited to try this. A friend of mine was recently on one of her low-cal rants and she mentioned microwaving her own popcorn and spraying it with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray because the spray is calorie free. Maybe I should be embarrassed, but it never even occurred to me that I could do microwave popcorn without buying it that way. I love FNH, but I don't know why they're all worked up over this one because this IS NOT common knowledge.

Super quick and easy! No added fat or salt, and it costs pennies compared to the store bought microwave popcorn!

Great way to make fat-free popcorn. I always make this as a study snack because I like to mindlessly munch on things as I read.
One thing though: brown paper grocery bags from the store do NOT always work in a pinch if you can't find a little brown paper lunch bag. The glue or the thicker paper or something may light the bag on fire and destroy your microwave and set off your smoke alarms. I learn so much being in college.

I found this on Alton's T.V. show. It really does work.
P.S. I staple the bag once and have never had a problem with "metal in the microwave".

i sometimes make this kind of popcorn. i also put a but of canola oil and salt into the baag before i microwave it. make sure not to microwave it too much because it gets really burnt and tastes terrible. :
