Very good- pears and apples are a great combination. In the future I would reduce the crumble topping and/or the sugar in the fruit as it was very sweet.

OMG! The hint of orange with the cinnamon and fruit is sooooo good. My family said they wanted seconds and wanted me to make it again. I wouldn't change a thing. This will be a go to recipe. I wish there were 10 stars!

I will likely make this again, however, I will use less (maybe omit some of the lemon and orange zest and juice. The fruit was still crunchy after 50 minutes of baking. It smelled wonderful and was easy. The peeling and chopping took a little bit of time.

Thanks to all the suggestions below, my first attempt was a rousing success! I went easy on the zest but I think the full amount will not give it a too citrusy taste. Someone suggested cooking the fruit for about 20 minutes before adding the topping, and then cook it the full 50-60 minutes. Good call! I cooked the fruit in a 9 X13 pan for 15 minutes and then 50 with the topping. It came out just right, neither hard nor mushy. I'm thinking next time I'll throw in some raisins for a strudel twist. I used a food processor to make the topping and then stirred in the oats, and I also added chopped walnuts. If you do add walnuts be sure they aren't too exposed on top, otherwise they'll burn. In addition, I put some cinammon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract in the topping. Unlike some others, I didn't find there was too much topping. Other than the peeling and chopping, this is a cinch, makes a ton, and is definitely guest-worthy.

This was a delicious crisp recipe! We all loved it - even with the citrus undertones. Will make this again!

SO GOOD! Just made this tonight for New Year's Eve dinner and it was a hit! I read the previews reviews and omitted the orange and lemon zest and I'm glad I did since it was perfect this way. I also only used gala apples since my hubby doesn't like pears. He couldn't stop saying how good it was! I served this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So good! I'm definitely making this again. Thanks Ina!!

I loved this dessert! I first saw the video on YouTube and then I saw the recipe here on the Food Network. I signed up to take a dessert to a friend who had a death in the family. When I took this dessert it was a hit! There was just a corner left and I managed to take it home with me.
I did have a little trouble with the topping. it was hard to mix all the dry ingredients, so I did end up adding about 2 tablespoons of water to get it to blend together better. I was very glad to see that the topping was not soggy, it was very crunchy. I also sauteed my pears in butter to soften them up a little. It's not pear season and the pears were very firm. When I added them to the mixture they were just right.
Ina, thanks for sharing this recipe with us, I will definitely continue to make this recipe many times over.

It really doesn't get any better than this!!! This is my go-to dessert for the family. The flavors mingle beautifully!! I do slighty grind my oats as I don't want them to stand out as much in the topping. Still is crispy, sweet and savory. Wouldn't change anything else! Just watch that you don't over do the orange. I did eye-ball the amount once and it was noted in the final dessert. Not bad at all, but the orange flavor almost dominated the pears and apples more than it should have. A comfort dessert perfect for that once in a while occasion to treat family and guests! Also pairs well with home made raw ice cream or just drizzle raw cream on top. Ultimate YUM!

I usually love Ina's recipes. But I must tell you, I was so embarrassed to have my new sister in law bite into this crumble which looked so delicious. She found nothing but orange flavor and we swiftly threw it away. Please leave out all zest and juice.
