It was the most amazing dessert I have ever made, so delicious!! I didn't make as many apples and pears as the recipe called for so I put it in a smaller dish but still used the same amount of topping. My topping turned out thick, with a crunchy top and it was sooo good!

Made this yesterday. Turned out perfectly. My family loved it. Based on previous reviews, I cut the gran. sugar and brown sugar for the topping down to 1/2 C each...glad I did as it was plenty sweet enough.

I made this for Easter. It is the second time I've made it. It is wonderful, so easy to put together -- a huge hit both times and is the perfect dessert-- its not too heavy -- I served it with vanilla ice cream . I like that it can be made early in the day -- made my day much easier - I put it together, covered with foil and put in the refrigerator; took it out about 20 minutes before it was time to bake and then just before putting it in I put the topping on. Suggest you do the topping ahead of time also and put in fridge -- I forgot and had to do at the last minute. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that both times I prepared it, there was topping left over, and I don't scrimp! I had a dish the same size that she used on the show today (4-16-2012 and both times there wasn't enough room - so would suggest to cut it by about 1/3. And DO put it on a sheet pan. It is a go to recipe for me - please try it, you will love it!!

Hands down, this is one of the most amazing recipes that I've run across in a very long time. Everything blends together, beautifully. I've made this several times for work and holiday functions. People actually beg to take some of it home. This will definitely stay in my recipe drawer for a very long time. Highly recommend.

Fabulous! I will NEVER make plain apple crisp again. The pears add a "depth of flavor" as Ina would say! I served this recipe to two different audiences and everyone said the same thing: "will never make plain apple crisp again." Delicious!
I received a box of fruit for the holidays and didn't want anything to go to waste. I am very indifferent about pears, but recalled seeing this recipe, so I tried it. I don't even know what kind of pears or apples I used, so I think any type would work.

I love this recipe! It is perfect in every way except that it was a little too sweet for me. I will just leave out some sugar next time. The citrus zests and juices make it a top notch crisp.

I doubled this recipe. I added the flour/sugar mixture and decided I needed to add more flour and brown sugar, since it didn't look like it coated it enough. I also added a bit of ground ginger and vanilla. It's a good thing I did, because I noticed instead of 4 pounds of pears and 4 pounds of apples, I used 8 pounds of pears and 5 pounds of apples. I'm not even sure how that happened! I'm sure the original recipe would have been perfect. I used a deeper, really big pan, and the topping for the doubled recipe worked perfectly. Everyone loves this! THANK YOU, INA!

A fantastic recipe! At first I was torn between this one and Ina's apple crumble recipe because they're so similar. But the crumble recipe doesn't mention adding flour to the apples and I found leaving it out makes it too liquidy. My only (nonissue with this is that my crisp topping never works out if I follow the directions exactly. I have to add water while it's in the mixing bowl to get it to mix to a crumbly consistency I can work with. But that's so easy it's not a real problem. This always turns out deliciously!

It was a wonderful dessert!!! We had it for my mother's birthday & they all loved it.
Just added a 1 1/2 cup chopped pecans & served it with vanilla ice cream. Thank you Ina!!

It really doesn't get any better than this!!! This is my go-to dessert for the family. The flavors mingle beautifully!! I do slighty grind my oats as I don't want them to stand out as much in the topping. Still is crispy, sweet and savory. Wouldn't change anything else! Just watch that you don't over do the orange. I did eye-ball the amount once and it was noted in the final dessert. Not bad at all, but the orange flavor almost dominated the pears and apples more than it should have. A comfort dessert perfect for that once in a while occasion to treat family and guests! Also pairs well with organic vanilla bean ice cream. Ultimate YUM!
